Manhunt 2 now approved for sale in the UK

Manhunt 2 has finally been approved for sale in the UK. Normally I wouldn’t care, but we’ve been following this story since the summer, so this is more cathartic than anything else. Rockstar, the game’s developer, had twice submitted the game to a British rating agency. After the second submission, the game was sent to an appeals board, where it had been lingering until this most recent decision. The game is now all clear for release and will carry an 18 certificate, more or less equal to an M rating over here.

The British rating agency said that it wasn’t giving Rockstar a hard time, just that it was doing its job, weeding out “potentially harmful” media.

And after all of this, what’s Rockstar’s reaction?

We are pleased that the VAC has reaffirmed its decision recognizing that Manhunt 2 is well within the bounds established by other 18+ rated entertainment. Rockstar Games is committed to making great interactive entertainment, while also marketing our products responsibly and supporting an effective rating system

Probably couldn’t have expected Rockstar to get on a soapbox there or anything.

At least it’s over. Shame the game is only average.
