GM says we'll have driverless cars within the decade

We could be looking at driverless cars within the decade, says GM. Not only would these cars save you the aggravation of having to drive to work and to the store every day, but it could improve road safety. GM says the technology would have advanced to the point where cars would be able to get from Point A to Point B completely aware of their surroundings, at all times (and wouldn’t have to put on makeup while stuck in traffic).

Tech is there, or the tech will be there, it’s really a matter of whether or not insurance companies give their blessing, whether or not the law would allow driverless cars at all. GM says they’d have to battle the perception, the enthusiasm people have for driving. GM will talk more about its driverless car idea at CES tomorrow.

I’m a city person (not by choice though), so I welcome a car that can drive me to Pacha and a car that can take me home safely after a night like I had on New Years. I’m not lying when I say I don’t even know how I got home.
