The Microsoft/Skinkers P2P live television streaming LiveStation project was demonstrated in London today to a small audience at a Microsoft event. The presentation inadvertently leaked some of the TV partners: BBC News 24, Sky, Al Jazeera, France 24 and Bloomberg. In addition, sign-ups for invites to trial the service should be going out today.
LiveStation is designed to stream TV channels over multiple content streams in a manner which is highly scalable. But it is worth pointing out that it does not work like Joost. The Silverlight-powered client competes with other P2P live television products including Zattoo, but the demonstration in London today showed that the interface is a lot slicker than the former product, and will even scale to a widget-sized window on the desktop.
Skinkers CEO Matteo Berlucchi demo’d LiveStation to a select audience and I managed to capture some video (below). Skinkers previously demonstrated a multi-channel client at the IBC conference earlier in September.
