Who needs LinkedIn when you have MySpace?

Clearly I am barking up the wrong tree. Reuters reports today:

News Corp is not holding takeover discussions with LinkedIn, a fast-growing social network for professionals, according to a source familiar with the matter. The source shot down rumors from the United Kingdom that the two were discussing a deal worth about $1 billion.

Apparently, the story goes on to say, News Corp’s Fox Interactive Media (FIM) executives have come up with an elegant solution which means they won’t have to splash out on a billion dollars for LinkedIn:

FIM President Peter Levinsohn told Reuters last week that MySpace plans to let its users create different profiles to attract different contacts, such as personal friends, business contacts or family members.

But of course! MySpace is the perfect solution for business networking. Imagine it now… surfing to a new business contact’s profile only to be greeted by “The Number of the Beast” by Iron Maiden. I think it would add a lot of character to user profiles, and certainly blows LinkedIn’s addition of profile pictures right out of the water.
