Microsoft, Sprint Launch Location-based Local Search

The partnership that Sprint and Microsoft inked towards the end of the year has finally yielded some worthwhile buzz. Starting today Sprint customers who use Live Search on their mobile will get local results via cell tower triangulation instead of GPS. Either way you’re getting search results in a timely manner without wasting time inputting your zip code. Sprint customers who own a Samsung a900, Moto RAZR, Sanyo 840, and LG550 can take advantage of the service via voice commands and even have directions sent via text message to a friend whose looking for the restaurant you’re supposed to rendezvous at. You also have the option of dialing the business from the search screen. The service isn’t exclusive to Sprint so we may see it elsewhere.
