Sony Humps Memory Stick to 32 Gigabytes

like BetaMax and UMD and MiniDisc.

Oops.

Instead of using the vast resources at its disposal to make ground-breaking devices that could crush the high-end competitors like Apple, Sony has teamed with SanDisk to increase the storage capacity of Memory Stick to 32GB.

Awesome, I guess. Look for Vaio’s to boot from said large-capacity removable media sometime later this year, and expect to pay for it, as Sony thinks 100 songs in your mobile phone should cost as much as a 2GB iPod Nano. That’s just goofy math.
