O2's Awe-Inspiring Smartphone is King of the Hill

Occasionally, a phone hits the networks across the sea that’s so badass that none of our pop-culture references or childish hyperbole can do it justice of any kind. One such device is the Flame from Germany’s O2 network. We like the BlackJack, we like the Treos, we like smartphones, but this sucker belongs in its own category. Geniusphone, perhaps, as there is nothing this monster lacks.

So instead of describing how rock-solid and drool-worthy it is, we’re just going to give you the specs and let you work it out on your own. Pay attention, and feel free to take notes.

  • 3.6-inch VGA(!?) touchscreen
  • 520MHz Xscale CPu
  • NVIDIA GoForce 5500 GPU
  • UMTS/HSDPA (Euro-flavored, sorry)
  • 2-megapixel camera with MPEG video
  • 2GB internal storage
  • 802.11b/g
  • TV-out with SRS surround sound(!?)
  • USB On-The-Go
  • Windows Mobile 5: Phone Edition
  • Powered by the blood of virgins

One of those is fake, but we’ll let you figure it out which one. The rest, however, are the honest truth. This thing packs more power than some peoples’ laptops. And on top of all that, it makes phone calls. We probably won’t see it stateside, like, ever, but be content in the knowledge that every time they push the envelope over in Europe or in Asia, we get a sweet ripple effect over here. That means holographic laser-powered steam-generating WiMax Bluetooth headsets could be in our future yet.
