Helio Makes Moves, Opens Stores, Feeds People To Fish

Helio made a play at MVNO dominance today, opening the first of five retail stores. Its flagship Helio Store is now open on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Cali. As you can see, store was was designed, unsurprisingly, as a place for the young and hip.

Computer terminals dot the walls amid comfortable looking furniture, where visitors can sit and check myspace, or stare blankly at the Internets. It was designed to accommodate workshops, tutorials and special after hour events. The store launched with an art exhibit featuring pieces from various popular artists. Helio users can download for their Helio device’s wallpaper versions of all of the art featured in the show.

In other Helio news, the company has launched a new TV spot for the forthcoming Samsung-made GPS-enabled Drift. The ad is called Scuba and was directed by Jared Hess, the guy who directed “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Nacho Libre.” Guess that chick shouldn’t have called it a “phone.”
