Wireless Power Coming Soon? Perhaps

I think everyone would love wireless power at this point. The fire hazard known as my “work area” is just dying to go wireless and free up some electrical sockets. Luckily, that may happen sooner than I thought. US researchers have started developing and working on a method for delivering power wirelessly. They draw on both new technologies and old ones from the likes of Nikola Tesla and the answer actually lies in physics and resonance. Resonance can commonly be heard in musical instruments and is the key to transferring power wirelessly.

Scientists say “If you bring another resonant object with the same frequency close enough to these tails then it turns out that the energy can tunnel from one object to another.”

Don’t go chucking your power strips just yet though. Development is in early stages and has a long way to go.
