If you’re like us, and we know you are, you’re tired of the HD DVD vs. Blu-ray pissing match that’s making it too confusing and frustrating to get your hands on high-def DVDs to watch on that fancy boobtube of yours. Dcube, a Korean A/V company, has taken it upon itself to say “STFU” to both camps in favor of a BYO solution.
Many people already (legally, we’re sure) use BitTorrent or other P2P networks to download movies and TV in high-def, generally using the fabulous DivX format. Its new HD DivX DVD player takes advantage of the popularity of the format with the new M-vision combo DVD/hard disk set-top box. You can burn your own DivX HD DVDs or send them to the unit via its integrated WiFi or Ethernet.
It reads DivX, OGG, WMA and WMV and MP3 files as well, and offers 5.1-channel surround sound to boot. You also get USB 2.0 and composite and DVI out. That’s a lot of gear for a little box. We hope it finds its way to the US, but we’re not going to hold our breath, as we’d turn blue and pass out long before getting our hands on one.
