Developed by Microsoft and announced in May 2014, the Surface Pro 3 is a Surface-series hybrid tablet, or “laplet.” The first models were released in the U.S. and Canada in June 2014, and the Surface Pro 3 was launched in 25 additional markets on August 28, 2014.
This tablet is the successor to the Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2. It ships with the 64-bit platform of Windows 8.1 Pro that features InstantGo, allowing for smartphone-type power-management capabilities. The tablet has a larger 12-inch display, but it is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
The Surface Pro 3 comes with an improved high-friction kickstand, capable of opening up to 150 degrees. New accessories also include a redesigned type cover and a battery-powered Bluetooth active pen. The Surface Pro 3 is built on the fourth-generation Intel Core processor with a Trusted Platform Module chip for enterprise security.
