Microsoft Bing, previously known as Live Search, Windows Live Search and MSN Search, is a web search engine developed by Microsoft and released in June 2009. The following month, Microsoft and Yahoo announced a 10-year deal in which the Yahoo search engine would be replaced by Bing. All Yahoo Search global customers and partners transitioned by early 2012.
In August 2011, Bing incorporated new back-end search infrastructure, called “Tiger,” that delivers faster and more relevant search results to users. In May 2012, Microsoft announced another redesign of Bing that includes “Sidebar,” a social feature that searches users’ social networks for information relevant to the search query.
In addition to its tool for searching web pages, Bing also provides search offerings for advertising (Bing Ads), dictionary (Bing Dictionary), entertainment (Bing Entertainment), events (Bing Events), finance (Bing Finance), health (Bing Health), and many other sectors. Bing is integrated with Hotmail, Facebook Apple, and Windows 8. It is available in many languages and has been localized for use in many countries.
