Microsoft Bing, previously known as Live Search, Windows Live Search and MSN Search, is a web search engine developed by Microsoft and released in June 2009. The following month, Microsoft and Yahoo announced a 10-year deal in which the Yahoo search engine would be replaced by Bing. All Yahoo Search global customers and partners transitioned by early 2012.
In August 2011, Bing incorporated a new back-end search infrastructure, called “Tiger,” that delivers faster and more relevant search results to users. In May 2012, Microsoft announced another redesign of Bing that includes “Sidebar,” a social feature that searches users’ social networks for information relevant to the search query.
Bing also provides search offerings for advertising, a dictionary, entertainment, events, finance, health and many other sectors.
