Founded in 1999 by Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff, and Frank Dominguez, Salesforce is a global cloud computing company. It began by specializing in software as a service (SaaS), and is now best known for its customer relationship management (CRM) product, though it has also expanded into the social enterprise arena through numerous acquisitions.
These include Dell IdeaStorm, Jigsaw Data Corp, Heroku, Dimdim, ExactTarget and many others. Salesforce is known for its sales cloud, which includes a real-time sales collaborative tool; the service cloud, which provides companies with a call center-like view; the custom cloud; and work.com, a social performance management platform.
Salesforce.com has its services available in 16 different languages and as of July 2011, it has 104,000 customers and over 2 million subscribers.
