Founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz is a $4 billion venture capital firm headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif. Andreessen and Horowitz were both separately active as investors in technology companies becoming well-known as super angel investors.
In July 2009, they launched their joint venture capital fund with an initial capitalization of $300 million. In August 2009, the firm made its first investment, backing technology business management SaaS developer Apptio. In November 2010, they raised another $650 million for a second venture fund. By 2011, the firm had a total of $1.2 billion under management in two funds. It has invested in startups like Soylent, Oculus Rift, Ripple, Coinbase, Pixlee, One Moth and Clinkle.
