Android Finally Gets An Official Yammer App

Finally. Over a year after iPhone users got their native Yammer fix, Android has an official Yammer application available on Android Market. The application, while still fairly basic, comes with support for most of Yammer’s core functionality. If you use Yammer and you have an Android phone, you’ll want this app. We can’t link directly to the app because Google still hasn’t launched a strong web→ Read More

Yammer Continues To Push Features I Want On Twitter

Yammer, a twitter-like service for closed groups, continues to add new features that I wish Twitter would implement as well. In the last day or so they added a simple notification for unread messages that syncs across the many ways users can access the service (mobile, AIR, browser). The notification is available through the Yammer API as well.

Twitter needs something like this. Various Twitter… → Read More

Yammer Extended Outage. Update: It's Back!

Yammer, the Twitter-like short messaging service for business users, has been experiencing a prolonged period of downtime today due to DNS issues. The service first went down over 12 hours ago, was alive for a short period tonight, and then became unresponsive again a few hours ago. The issue is also affecting sister company Geni, who share the same DNS servers. → Read More

Yammer 2.0 For The iPhone Finally Pushes Past The App Store Watchmen

The big addition here is Push Notifications. This is really a key feature since you now can see whenever someone in your… → Read More

What Happened To Adobe Air Today? No One Seems To Know.

We were plagued all day today at the TechCrunch offices with a faulty Yammer Air app. Updates weren’t working or were seriously delayed, and most of us just moved over to the web version to get reliable service. We rely heavily on Yammer to communicate asynchronously across our very distributed team (three continents). I didn’t realize how heavily until today when the service wasn’t working… → Read More

Yammer's Big Night: Launches Threaded Conversations, Push-Enabled iPhone App, And More

It’s been just under a year since Yammer, the ‘Twitter for businesses’, launched at TechCrunch 50 and won the conference’s top prize. Since then the service has seen steady growth, with over 40,000 networks signed up for the service. It’s also become an absolutely essential tool inside the TechCrunch office, which is why I grew alarmed when I noticed that the service is currently down. But a… → Read More

Hey, Where's Twitter For Families?

Since I joined TechCrunch I’ve seen more Twitter clones and derivatives then I’d care to remember, most of which haven’t really gone anywhere. But there are a few gems that have managed to tackle markets that Twitter has, for whatever reason, ignored. One of these is Yammer, the “Twitter for businesses” that won the top prize at last year’s TechCrunch50. And in the last few days, it’s become… → Read More

Yammer Completely Reworks Its Desktop Client. I Can Feel My Productivity Increasing Already.

It’s been less than a year since Yammer made its debut at TechCrunch50 (and took the top prize), but the Twitter-for-businesses has already become absolutely essential to keeping TechCrunch going on all cylinders. And we’re not the only ones — Yammer is used by over 40,000 companies, and given the uproar caused when the service went down briefly last week, it’s clear that we’re not the only… → Read More

While Sacks Plays Poker, Yammer Burns

So, as you may have seen yesterday, Yammer founder David Sacks is still alive in the World Series of Poker. In fact, he has to miss our events tomorrow because of it. But you know, there’s something that we’re missing today — Yammer.

The service has been down for a few hours now, with no signs of coming back up. Twitter is abuzz with the failure.

So while Sacks is busy playing Poker (okay… → Read More

Previously he was the COO of PayPal and produced the Academy Award-nominated movie “Thank You For Smoking.” Sacks says he’s incorporating the retweet feature into Yammer, his “Twitter for the enterprise” product that launched at TechCrunch50 last year.

Yammer Goes Down, Companies Silenced (Updated)

Back in the heady, sunlit uplands of Summer 2007 we used to complain when Twitter went down, so useful had it become. Even Mahalo CEO Jason Calacanis once decided Twitter was so crucial to his business that he would pay $100 a year for a premium account. Well, as we all now know, a few people cottoned on to that idea, and so Yammer was born to bring the usefulness of Twitter to internal company… → Read More

Yammer To Add Groups, Tags and Threaded Comments

When Yammer, a micro-messaging service for the enterprise, launched at TechCrunch50, the biggest complaint was that the service was one big inbox, with no way to create groups or tag messages.

That hasn’t hurt growth of the company, which had 50,000 users a week after launch. But as usage grows at a company, the “all messages” tab can get a little noisy. We are using the service religiously at… → Read More
