Another Windows 7 launch party in Japan, another touchscreen failure

Judging from this video, the Windows 7 launch in Japan was certainly more, shall we say, flamboyant then the launch here in the US. But the really amusing part is the fact that the host couldn’t get the touchscreen to work. → Read More

Surprise! "Family Guy" too raunchy for Microsoft sponsorship

When I first heard that Microsoft was going to be publicizing Windows 7 in the legendarily offensive “Family Guy,” I thought “Wow, either Microsoft is cooler than I thought or they’ve never actually seen the show.” Unsurprisingly, it seems to have been the latter. → Read More

Video hilarity: Windows 7 launched on a MacBook Pro on NBC's The Today Show

Oh, dear. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was on The Today Show (international viewers: The Today Show is a morning news and entertainment program that airs on NBC, a big TV network here) to unveil Windows 7. Call me crazy, but isn’t that a first-gen MacBook Pro in the background? Good job, NBC! → Read More

There’s no need for a translation here. A fail this epic speaks for itself and brings back fond memories of the classic Windows 98 fail. Enjoy. The laughs from the TV hosts are the best part IMHO. [via MacDailyNews] → Read More

The real life Burger King Windows 7 Whopper is a disgusting joke to humanity

OMG. When I asked our Japanese readers to send in a pic of the Burger King Windows 7 burger, I was half hoping that it really didn’t exist. But nope, here it is. You probably shouldn’t look at this before breakfast, btw. → Read More

Apple will support Windows 7 in Boot Camp by the end of the year

Mac users will need to wait a little longer until Apple officially supports Windows 7 through Boot Camp. A support document published today indicates that Apple Genius will be able to help you sometime before the end of the year. No worries though, many, including our own Nicholas, have already found out that even beta versions of Windows 7 currently run fine through Boot Camp. If you run in to a snag, a bit of Google’n or a local 13-year old can probably resolve your problem. → Read More

Windows startup and shutdown sounds through the ages

Look at these early Windows start-up sounds. They look primitive now but imagine being a young man in the late 1980s and your parents have just brought you home a new Packard Bell x86 machine. Back in those days sound cards were premium items and to hear an operating system sing to you when you start it up was a really big deal. The vast majority of computer users during that time would have never heard most of these sounds. → Read More

How To Throw A Windows 7 Torrenting Party Without Getting Arrested

Today is Windows 7 launch day, and everyone is having a party. In fact, Microsoft’s helpful Windows 7 launch party prepping video is already an instant Internet classic.

But there’s more than one way to have a Windows 7 launch party. The Funny or Die spoof video above shows you how to have a Windows 7 torrenting party, and even gives tips for how not to get arrested. (Warning: there are a few f-bombs at the end). Windows 7 can be so much fun! But what’s with the British accents? → Read More

So! How excited are you about Windows 7

It’s nigh on a few hours before the Windows 7 launch and things are heating up in the big city. Folks are lining up at the Windows store, children are quieter and more attentive in school, and the troubles of the world – global warming, terrorists, the economy – are on hold. We are waiting for a miracle and when it comes it will rhyme with ‘dindows’ and end with ’7′

How happy are you about Windows 7? Like how totally happy?

A poll, if you will, after the jump. → Read More

Windows 7 launches tomorrow. Are you going to bite?

Windows 7 has been a long time coming. In some ways it’s what Windows Vista was suppose to be back in 2006. It’s fast, super stable, but also clean and sleek. I love it and switch from OS X because of Windows 7. It has restored my faith in Microsoft and it feels good to be back on a Windows system after a five year hiatus. I don’t think I’m alone either.

Reviews and previews of Windows 7 have been posted ever since the first public beta in January of 2009. Everyone seems to love it. I haven’t seen or heard of any major bugs or flaws in the operating system. Microsoft nailed this one and should be proud.

Tomorrow, October 22, is the official launch date of Windows 7. Preorders are already shipping out from online retailers and I wouldn’t be surprised if the retail boxes are already on the shelves in some brick and mortar stores. In fact, TG Daily is reporting that Windows 7 has dethroned Harry Potter as Amazon’s most successful preorder item of all time. It’s clear that people want Windows 7. → Read More

Windows 7 Launch Party hosts: Are you planning on actually having the party?

If you’re a Windows 7 Launch Party host like me, you’ve probably gone through a wave of emotion. First you were probably stoked that you were chosen, you then probably had fun with everyone else over the awful launch party videos and hand-outs, and then last week, you probably got the sweet party kit that contains a special version of Windows 7 Ultimate. But are you now dreading the damn party next week? I am. So I wanna know, are you actually planning on having the party? If so, give me some and others some tips and/or words of encouragement in the comments below. → Read More

Microsoft giving away 777 copies of Windows 7 Ultimate to residents of Zevenhuizen, Netherlands

Fellow nerds will know that Final Fantasy VII had a special “mode,” I guess, called “All Lucky 7s” that triggered when your HP was at 7777. I bring this up to segue into this story, that Microsoft is giving away 777 copies of Windows 7 to the lucky residents of Zevenhuizen, in Groningen, in The Netherlands. “Zevenhuizen,” of course, translates to “seven houses.” → Read More
