I can’t say that this excites me very much and I doubt it will excite any of you, but BBSync has some exclusive images of the Thunder’s (9500) music player. Apparently the Thunder’s music player will be carrier specific (BOO!) with the ability to purchase songs on the fly. We know the Bold will ship with Media Sync and it makes me wonder why the Thunder won’t have it. Of course, that’s solely based on conjecture, but I don’t see why a Verizon device such as this would play nice with iTunes, anyway. Other notables include OS 4.7 and a 360×480 touch display that should be glass ala iPhone, It also appears that the Thunder can go into landscape mode for videos. Too bad it’s going to be a CDMA device. I hope, for RIM’s sake, the Thunder is a “World Edition” device. → Read More
Dates have not been confirmed for the Touch Diamond or Touch Pro, but they’re hitting VZW sometime this year. Also slated for Verizon is the Samsung SCH-U310, which no one knows anything about. The Motorola Blaze is slated for a September 22 release along with another Moto due in mid-August. The Palm Treo 800w is also slated for release, but no date, yet. Snooze. → Read More
Can you hear me now? No, I’m listening to music thanks to Rhapsody. That horrendous opening can mean only one thing: Verizon Wireless has joined up with Rhapsody to launch a mobile music subscription service, the first of its kind. The name, V CAST Music with Rhapsody, could use some work, but that’s to be expected. (That’s actually a good idea for an article: on terrible product names.) Anyway, the service, which will run you $15 a month, gives you access to a library of five million all-you-can eat songs. (Or, you can keep paying $1.99 per individual download if you’re so inclined, one for your phone and one for the PC, all DRM-free.) Subscribers will get to use the service on both their cellphone and PC. Now, you’ll need a Rhapsody-compatible phone to use the service. These include the unreleased LG Chocolate 3, which will be the service’s launch vehicle, and current “it” phone for VZW, the LG Dare. You can try it out today by visiting VZW’s Web site. → Read More
Available today online and in stores on July 3 is the LG Dare. The latest device from LG has a 3-inch touchscreen with handwriting recognition, a 3.2-megapixel camera with face detection and LED flash. To be honest, those seem to be the major highlights for this device. Full specs after the jump. Oh, it’s priced at $199 after a $50 MIR and two-year contract. → Read More
There it is! The Palm Centro for Verizon is available now for $99 after a MIR. What a pain in the ass. → Read More
A Dark Knight edition of the Nokia 6205 will be released this Sunday, June 15. You’ll only be able to grab it from verizonwireless.com. Being that it’s a mass market movie tie-in, don’t expect too many high-end features; it’s more or less an entry-level cell. Like, when the camera is a whopping 1.3 megapixels, you should know exactly what type of phone this is. → Read More
If it’s in the WSJ then it must be true! Was there any doubt that Verizon would try and sell the Centro for more than $99? They’d be shooting themselves in the foot if they did. → Read More
Pearl Jam, known for its live bootlegs, has joined forces with Verizon Wireless, known for its stupid commercials. (That’s the best I got, sorry.) The band’s summer tour, which starts today in West Palm Beach, will be recorded in toto, and three songs from each performance will be available on Verizon Wireless, one for free and the the other two at “standard costs.” You know who doesn’t like Pearl Jam? Matt Hickey. You should probably e-mail him with your disgust. → Read More
The rumors floating around yesterday are true. Verizon Wireless has just announced that they will be acquiring Alltel for $28.1 billion. The acquisition should be completed by year’s end. Full release after the jump. → Read More
I can’t even begin to tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this particular phone to reach the US. I was completely enamored with it, the F700, when I first saw the press release more than a year ago. This was back in February and then I finally got a chance to play with it in October when I was in Korea. I knew right then and there that I had to have it, but I wasn’t really willing to pay the exorbitant amount for an unlocked version from Europe. Then I caught wind of a CDMA variant that would be coming to the US. I was told it would probably be announced sometime before the end of 2007, but we all know that didn’t happen. So I have before me the u940, which has been redubbed the Glyde. Do I love it? Yes. Do I hate it? Yes. → Read More
It’s official. Review coming shortly. I hate when embargoes get broken. Quick spec list after the jump. → Read More
I was told it would be available on the 9th, which was I told you the other day, but it looks like Verizon decided to let it loose a couple days early. It’s also cheaper than expected. It’s $220 with a $100 online rebate, but there’s also a $50 mail-in rebate bringing the grand total to $170. That’s not as cheap as AT&T’s current deal of $99, but it’s cheaper than T-Mobile’s $250 tag. → Read More
Just a quick note for Verizon Wireless subscribers itching to get their hands on the BlackBerry Curve. The 8330 that was announced at CTIA will be available on May 9 on the Internet and in Verizon Wireless business channels; May 12 in all Verizon Wireless Communications stores. It will retail for $269.99 after a $50 rebate. → Read More
LG’s latest variation of its popular enV, the enV2, will be available starting tomorrow for $129.99. The horizontal flip is diminutive in size, but packs a decent amount of features such as a full QWERTY, 2-megapixel camera with video recording capability, 2.4-inch internal screen, Stereo Bluetooth, and music player among others. The enV2 comes in black or maroon. → Read More
The HTC Touch is now available through Verizon Wireless, although it’s called the XV6900 which we can all agree sounds much, much cooler. It’ll set you back $299 for the device itself and then you’ll enjoy paying at least $80 per month for data service and 450 anytime minutes, which you might find to be an absurd amount for voice and data service. I know I do. Oh, you can also use your new XV6900 as a modem for your laptop. That’s another $15 per month. Oh, and only for 5GB of data. After that you’ll pay 49 cents per megabyte in overage charges. But hey, someone’s gotta pay the hundreds and hundreds of “actors” union wages to follow the Verizon Guy around in all those commercials. Verizon Wireless wants you to know, paying customer, that it’s got your back. All that spectrum it won last month? It’s totally going to use it to “further [its] broadband strategy.” I do wonder if *its* strategy will be good for *us* or just another money grab. For those of you bored at your desk this Friday afternoon, VZW just posted a powerfully worded PowerPoint presentation (PDF) on its future business strategy. The sentence “Verizon is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the data opportunity” appears on nearly every slide. It’s that old marketing trick: if you keep saying something eventually people will accept it as fact. → Read More

Look how big I made this photo of the BlackBerry Curve! It’s one of five sorta new handsets that’ll be available on the Verizon network in the not too distant future. Let’s run through them all one by one, shall we? → Read More
File this away in your “Meh” folder if you like but Verizon Wireless is offering 50MB of EVDO data for $39.99 a month. That might work for some people, but I’d think it’d be pretty easy to blast through 50MB and, according to MobileBurn.com, going over will cost a cool 99 cents per megabyte. If you’ve got no better uses for $40 and just need to hop online in a few remote locations every month, maybe this would be a good option for you versus VZW’s $59.99 5GB plan.
