TweetDeck Nears For The iPhone. Set To Battle Tweetie

Digg co-founder Kevin Rose got his hands on a new iPhone application that a lot of people will be interested in: TweetDeck. Yes, the popular desktop application is coming to the iPhone “soon,” according to Rose. But what’s really interesting about it is his statement that, “I can say now that it’s going to replace tweetie as my default twitter iphone app.”

That’s a bold statement, given that… → Read More

The More Followers You Have, The More You Tweet. Or Is It The Other Way Around?

Oh, the burdens of popularity. We already know that most people on Twitter are sheep with few followers and who don’t Tweet much. But what about the rams? If you want to lead a flock on Twitter, you need to be heard. People with 100 followers send out an average of 2.4 Tweets per day, while those with 1,800 followers Tweet an average of 10.2 a day, according to a new study by Sysomos, a social… → Read More

Are Social Network Aggregators The New Cheese?

Here’s a question that’s been running through my head ever since Michael posted about FriendFeed being in danger of becoming the coolest app no one uses: exactly how many startups out there are trying to be the one social networking service aggregator to rule them all, and how many is enough?

It seems like every day startups come up with new applications, be it for desktop, Web and/or mobile… → Read More

PeopleBrowsr Tosses Its Hat In The Twitter/Facebook Desktop Client Ring

There is a heated competition taking place for which Twitter/Facebook desktop client is the fairest of them all. We’ve written about about TweetDeck, Twhirl / Seesmic Desktop, AlertThingy, Sobees, and the clients that focus only on Twitter (Tweetie, Nambu, Twitterific, etc.). Now, PeopleBrowsr, is entering beta with a free Adobe AIR-powered desktop app that integrates Twitter, Facebook and other… → Read More

Twitterrific Comes Roaring Back Into The iPhone Twitter App Wars

During the past several months, a war has been brewing between Twitter apps for the iPhone. But it’s been largely two-sided. You were either in the Twitterfon camp or the Tweetie camp. And if you were using any other app, it was only because you didn’t know any better. But with the release of Twitterrific 2.0 [iTunes link] for the iPhone, a new player has entered the fray.

Twitterrific was one of… → Read More

Keep It Simple, Stupid

K-I-S-S: Keep It Simple, Stupid. It’s a mantra that always pops into my head when I’m looking at new startups. A lot of them seem to want to do a million different things because other companies have been successful at one of those things in the past. But that’s a bad idea. Way too many new products and services are too complicated. And I would suggest, often fail as a direct result of… → Read More

Here Comes Twitter Spam And How To Fight It

A spam-less Twitter feed might just be too good to be true. Spam is becoming an increasing problem on Twitter and something has to be done to separate the wheat from the chaff. Spammers are using Twitter as a tool by replying to your @username, which then causes the Tweets to show up in your timeline. There isn’t really a way to filter Twitter spam directly from a Twitter client. But there may be… → Read More

Tweetie For Mac: A Powerful, Native Twitter Client For The Masses

Today sees the public launch of Tweetie for Mac, the desktop-based big brother of what many (myself included) consider to be the iPhone’s best Twitter client. I’ve been playing around with a beta version of the app for the last few days since my initial preview last Thursday, and I’m happy to say that my enthusiasm for the application hasn’t waned. It’s sleek, it sweats the small stuff, and… → Read More
