Just got a look at the forthcoming HTC Touch Dual that Matt told us all about earlier today and I have some more information for you, plus a video. 1. It’ll be sold exclusively through Best Buy sometime this quarter. 2. It’ll be unlocked and will run on GSM networks and AT&T’s HSDPA protocol. 3. Price has not yet been set. An unlocked Touch runs about $500, though, so maybe look for the Touch Dual to cost at least that — maybe even $600 or so. → Read More
Peter liked the HTC Touch when he got his hands on it last year, and HTC has done a pretty good job of making it not just a product but a brand. The latest is the Touch Dual, a slimmer version of the original Touch with a slide-out T9 keypad. A new version at CTIA today will debut a slide-out QWERTY-style keyboard as well. They’re both the Dual, and you’ll apparently have an option as to which you’d prefer. How they’re doing this we’re not sure, but it sounds good to us. The new Touch Dual is GSM with 3.5G connectivity, making it faster than the previous Touch on the Internet. It also has an always-on, live homescreen, giving you weather and other live news. Oh, and it runs the rad new Windows Mobile 6.1. → Read More
Actually, I’m just joking. The Verizon Touch is a little slimmer than the Sprint version and it’s all white, but it’s really not the second coming of the great corn god Centeotl. It is, in fact, slim PDA with featuring a fairly cool UI trick bolted onto the a rat turd baked into a loaf of German black bread and then eaten inadvertently by a five year old boy who then throws up on your lap at Zum Schneider AKA Windows Mobile 6. No pricing but it will be available in March. I wouldn’t suggest standing in line for it overnight. Verizon Wireless XV6900 (HTC Touch) Pics! Due in March! [HowardForums] → Read More

Pretty cool stuff. It looks like this is the real deal and folks like Nate and the inventors of iBrickr got this in order to help the unlock process prior to the launch. Could this be a renegade Apple employee, tired of having to explain to his friends why their Solitaire app stops working every upgrade? Nah. What I suspect is happening is that someone got their hands on some development firmware prior to MacWorld’s SDK announcement and this basically shows us what to expect in a few weeks. They keep talking about signed code over on Gizmodo so that meets a Mac developer doesn’t want to lose his license. Oh, and it breaks all third-party apps and activations. via Nate True → Read More
Ummmm… yeah. No thanks. My fingers don’t move that way, really, and I think I’d rather not be touching the Buster Brothers as I try to move them around and around. Give me a few more motion activated games like 15 and I’ll be happy, but please keep your PS emulators to yourself, iPhone programmers. Want something that will inevitably disappoint you? Pick up the 4GB Optimus Touch, now with super classy iPod Touch-esque UI without the iPod Touch-esque price or build quality. We’ve been loving multitouch since Apple made it splash with the iPhone and now the iPod Touch. And we’re shepherding rumors lately that the new Apple sub-notebooks that are rumored will feature mutlitouch. When the new iMacs were announced a couple months ago, we figured they’d have the technology, but we were foiled. TrollTouch, however, has hacked the iMac to include touchscreen technology. We haven’t used one yet, but we’re guessing Leopard would be a ton of fun to use this way. Now, it’s not official, so we’re sure it’s buggy, but its perfectly suited to retail and other transactional uses, or for those who are really into hands-on photoshoppery. iMacs on Troll Touch [Product Page] → Read More
The Touch by HTC, which will be offered by Sprint on November 4, is hands down one of the best devices I’ve used in the past two years. That says a lot considering the number of devices that roll through the CrunchGear offices. But to each his own, I say. The Touch has been an integral part of my stay in the Bay Area and has saved me on more than one occasion. When I first saw the GSM version of the Touch months ago, I wasn’t that impressed. I usually snub any device that runs Windows Mobile and I thought TouchFLO was just a gimmick, but I can admit when I’m wrong. I like the Touch and I don’t want to send it back! We’ll gloss over the specs and then move onto HTC’s unique UI that is better than the other phone with a touchscreen interface, which shall remain nameless in case there are fanboys or haters that feel like spouting off. These are two entirely different devices aimed at different groups. Read the rest here… → Read More
I’m not saying people will be rushing to pick up a Zen or anything, but it should be noted that Creative has announced the world’s first flash-based 32GB PMP and it’s the size of a CC. What else does $378 get you? That’s not a type typo, either, it’s $378. That’s cheap. Super cheap for 32GB of flash memory. A 2.5-inch display, 30 hours of music playback, five hours of video playback and an SD card slot. Holy balls! Could the 32GB iPod Touch be on its way? Maybe, just maybe, at MacWorld in January? Please say it’s true, Apple. Press Release → Read More

So, how about those Mets. They were robbed, right? So we had some lasagna last night. I made it with these freeze-dried noodle things. You just put the noodles in the ‘zagna and cook it up. They actually become soft like regular noodles and you don’t even have to worry about cooking them and putting them into the dish. It was really easy. Also, they have a 1.1.2 firmware jailbreak now, but you have to be running 1.1.1 to start it. I hope it doesn’t rain today. Warez via TUAW → Read More
Yawn. It’s not even a challenge any more. A few hours after its unofficial release — seriously, this firmware isn’t even out yet and it’s already broken — haxors have jailbroken it, peed inside its Media folder, and used the built in security as a hand towel. No details yet, but soon. 1.1.2 iPod touch Jailbroken–before its official release! [TUAW] → Read More

Yes, it’s no secret that I dislike Windows Mobile, but I have before me two WinMo devices from HTC; the Touch from Sprint and the Tilt from AT&T. I’m excited at the prospect of tinkering with both and yet I can’t help but wonder if I’ll accept WinMo with open arms and keep an objective view on the OS without my utter hatred clouding my judgement. Can the WinMo users in the audience offer any hints/tips/tricks in making this exploration all that it can be? [Update 1]: I’ve had a few days to fondle both devices and so far the Touch is my favorite of the two. It’s easier to use, but lacks some of the features that obviously make the Tilt stand out. But the Tilt is a fat bastard. It’s heavy and it’s not as cool as the Touch’s interface. And it picks up the ladies. → Read More
I know you’ve already heard about the Touch from Vince, but I arrived in San Francisco today and waiting for me was the Sprint Touch, which goes on sale November 4th. I haven’t slept in, I don’t even know how long, so we’ll leave this to an unboxing. A full review of the Touch on Sprint’s network coming at you…soon…probably next week…maybe this weekend. → Read More
Apple has officially announced an SDK for the iPhone. Now developers will easily be able to make uniform applications designed specifically for the iPhone. Thank goodness too, because I’m sure plenty of us were getting sick of these Web 2.0 iPhone “apps”. Not only will the iPhone SDK help coders with the iPhone, it’ll also be used for designing iPod Touch applications. Oh snap! Apple Hot News → Read More
Hey, have you been patiently waiting for the HTC Touch to be released as part of Sprint’s Q4 offerings? Well, it’ll be here pretty soon. The phone "will be priced at $249.99 with a two-year subscriber agreement and a $100 mail-in rebate." I’m pretty sure that means that it’ll cost $250 after rebate but these slick-willy PR people have made an ass of me plenty of times in the past. Sprint-exclusive content will include access to the Sprint Music Store, Sprint TV, streaming radio (including Sirius), and on-demand "sports, weather, news, money and more customized by zip code." Durrr… Hi. I’m a phone manufacturer/mobile OS programmer. Durrr… urm…. durr. Hold on. I just had to make pasgetti. So I sawed a man in the Apel stor who had a cool fone called the apelphone. it had a big screen… ICE CREAM!… and it was touch swansitive. You could move your finger on the screen like you were pushing boogers off of the screen and he had a boogie in his nose! So I made this operating sys called Touch and it is from the future! It has booger movies and takes pictures and its better cause you can use your fanger or your pencil or your peeper! HA! You are so stupid, apelfone! You don’t have pencil controls! The sad thing is we’ll prolly sell a MILIONGAZILION of these and I’ll be so happy :):(:). I can go see Air Bud! S60 Touch Interface Launched [AllAboutSymbian] → Read More
13-year-old AriX wrote a GUI for jailbreaking the iPod Touch. That’s right — no more typing in weird commands and staring into space as your device gets bricked. So now the new Zunes are out and about, cool. They’re a big improvement to the original, which had been out less than a year. And while we’re supporters of the Zune and the Zune marketplace, there’s no doubt that the Zune still has a long way to go to catch up with Apple and the iPod line. While we now have two versions of Microsoft’s media player, Apple is filling out with fou. Or five if you count the iPhone (which, for now, we won’t). That being said, the Zune is still less than a year old to the iPod’s six. But let’s look at the parity in the market and really get down to who’s in charge here. It’s not Microsoft. → Read More
