HTC Touch Diamond followed by the HTC Touch Pro; HTC Touch HD followed by the HTC Touch HD Pro? Could be.

The mockup here shows what the device could look like—the same HTC Touch HD we’ve all know and love, maybe, with a QWERTY keyboard tacked on.

Again, this rumor mainly came about because of the “Device, Device Pro” progression we’ve seen for other HTC products. That is to say it’s tenuous at best.

The iPhone. Not that it matters much, but the stinking iPhone brought home 2008 Gadget of the Year, Best Mobile Technology, Most Stylish Technology and Technological Innovation of the Year from the British Technology Awards. The iPhone has been sweeping similar award lists like LOTR: Return of the King did in the 2004 Academy Awards. Apparently ‘coss the Pond, 2008 is already done and over with, leaving phones such as the G1, BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Storm, and HTC Touch HD out of the running cause they didn’t launch within the first 10 months of 2008. Just saying.

You hear that crashing sound? Those are my hopes and dreams, shattering.

Yesterday on Twitter, HTC announced that they have no plans to bring the Touch HD to US soil:

sad news, US. we looked into it- by the time we could bring Touch HD to the states, it would be old news. we do have other cool stuff coming

That’s really too bad. This was a really, really nice looking handset. After pawing at it for a few minutes back in September, I was willing to look past its Windows Mobile core for the sake of that glorious 3.8 inch WVGA screen. Oh well – see you guys at Shady Steve’s Import Shack.

I got to spend about 5 glorious minutes with the HTC Touch HD behind closed doors not too long ago, and I’ve been having withdrawals since. We’ve still got a few months before this guy even hits European shores, so it’ll be a while before I can get my Yank hands on it again. In the mean time, I’ll just watch HTC’s newly released Touch HD demo on repeat – with a soundtrack like that, who could resist?

From the video: “Discover a place of adventure.. where imagination becomes reality.. and your wildest fantasies come to life”. Holy crap, the HTC Touch HD is Disneyland.

Also, the site causally mentions that O2 Germany will be the first carrier worldwide to launch the WME smartphone sometime in November with a 659 Euro price tag. No word when that exclusive deal is up though.

CNET Asia has some photos of the HTC Touch HD as compared to the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro handsets. While the Touch HD may look monstrous, keep in mind that the Diamond is almost deceptively small. Same for the Pro, except that its slide-out keyboard gives it a fair amount of extra thickness.

That, my friends, is a pretty gorgeous looking screen at 800×480. That’s the same screen resolution as the 7-inch Eee PC! The Touch HD’s screen, though, is 3.8 inches diagonally. Yum.

And here’s an in-hand shot. I’m hoping that the guy who took the photo has small hands. The Touch HD’s dimensions at 4.35 x 2.5 x .47 inches. I just measured my iPod Touch and it has almost the exact same dimensions except that it’s thinner at .25 inches. It doesn’t look quite as unwieldy in my hand. Example:

The gadget loving internet first heard of the HTC Touch HD through a handful of spy shots that hit the internet last week, so it seems almost appropriate that its first official debut was pushed into the spotlight a bit earlier than HTC apparently intended. One way or another, some crafty gent found himself at a full-blown HTC Touch HD product page complete with visuals and specs galore before the press release has made its way down the wire.

One way or another, some crafty gent found himself at a full-blown HTC Touch HD product page complete with visuals and specs galore before the press release has made its way down the wire.

This one looks to be an outright beast: 3.8″ 480×800 (WVGA) touchscreen, 5 megapixel autofocus camera on the back with a VGA front facing secondary cam, HSDPA/WCMDA, Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 802.11g WiFi, GPS, and the always nice to see 3.5mm. At just 12mm thick, it packs a pretty solid punch without making it look like you’re sporting a brick in your pant pocket. While the TouchFLO 3D interface will help with the sting of Windows Mobile 6.1 just a bit, we still wished it shared a platform with that other HTC handset.

The product page doesn’t mention pricing or availability, so those are still a mystery until the press release makes its way down the tubes. With a product page already online, we probably won’t have to wait too much longer for that.
