Looks like we won’t be playing Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition on the PC anytime soon. (Meh: we’re all busy playing Civilization V and F1 2010.) Capcom blames piracy, as always.

The game, which was announced at the Tokyo Game Show a few days ago, won’t be coming to the PC (despite the fact that the arcade board it runs on is little more than a PC) because of Capcom’s concerns over piracy.

The PC is “number one in piracy,” said Capcom. And while it’s all well and good that people like the game enough to pirate it, Capcom doesn’t want the perception to be that one version of the game is essentially “free.”

Why not exclusively release a Steam version? Capcom says that wouldn’t be “fair” to people who aren’t able to download games from Steam.

My guess would be that the two extra characters, Yun and Yang, will be released as a DLC at some point. Good thing I already bought the Xbox 360 version (of both Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, no less) some months ago.

I’m going to blame every one of my failings—and there are plenty—on piracy. Everyone else is doing it!

You’ll find no one here who’s not down for a round or two (or 10) of Street Fighter. No one! In fact, I’m half-convinced that that’s Greg under that helmet.

There’s a room set aside here at PAX for free play, where you can take a load off and try your hand at Heavy Rain, Bayonetta, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and, of course, Street Fighter IV.

I can guarantee that even ol’ Blockhead here would destroy me in the game.

We’ve spent three posts covering Street Fighter IV for the iPhone so far, and this fourth one is intended to inform you Capcom’s latest game has finally arrived in the App Store (I checked the US, German and Japanese store). Capcom itself isn’t listing the app [iTunes link] on their official “Capcom Mobile” site yet, but it is already being offered for $9.99.

Initial reviews in the App Store are overwhelmingly positive. The game received 64 reviews so far, with 55 people rating it five out of five stars and 9 with four stars. And Street Fighter IV gets a lot of buzz on Twitter, too.

Yeah, this Street Fighter IV arcade stick looks better than Mad Catz’s efforts. It was created by a certain Mekishiko916, and it can be yours, too, if you’re willing to part with $190.

The stick, which is for the Xbox 360, is completely wireless, save for its USB charge cable.

The buttons are spaced out exactly like the old Street Fighter II ones, a game I used to play at the local Pizza Hut while waiting for my personal pan pizza.

There’s a Ryu and Akuma version. And since Akuma is rubbish, I guess I’d opt for the Ryu one.

July 2, 2009. That’s when Street Fighter IV comes out for the PC in Japan. Of course Capcom hasn’t bothered to announce a release date for North America, because that would be far too useful and welcome. There’s no more to this post—short and sour—so don’t bother clicking “Read More.” God bless America.

Good—albeit ludicrous—news, PC gamers. Capcom will announce the release of the PC version of Street Fighter IV on Friday. Yes, you read that right: it’s Wednesday, and Capcom would like you to know that on Friday it will announce a release date. Okay. To top it off, there doesn’t seem to be too much going for the PC version compared to its console brethren.

The biggie (so far): there’s a few different render modes. There’s “Watercolor,” “Poster,” and “Sumi-e ink.” See if you can spot the difference (they’re in order), then pick a favorite! (I like the inky one.)

Oh, and I don’t know if you’d consider this bad news, per se, but it’s certainly dumb news: the game makes use of Games For Windows. Now, judging by the reaction over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun, it sure as hell looks like nobody likes Games For Windows, even if its new implementation is free. Folks don’t want another silly service running on their PC, a service that, arguably, adds very little to the gameplay experience. What, a few Achievements? The ability to see that your friend is playing Some Game 3 on his Xbox 360? Cool, let me stop what I’m doing to play that instead. Et cetera.

In any event, get ready for Friday, when we learn the release date.

Why the release date couldn’t just be announced now, I don’t know. I largely don’t care, either, it’s just the silliness that gets to me.

It goes without saying that most of us here at CG are looking forward to Street Fighter IV‘s release tomorrow. The game has been available for a few days in Japan, and rough first-day sales numbers have trickled out. Between the two versions, Capcom has sold (remember, this is only for one day) 116,000 copies of the game. There’s reports that stores there are having trouble keeping it on the shelves; then again, there’s reports that say you can easily find the game. Pick whichever you want.

I have my eye on this MadCatz controller, seeing as though the Xbox 360 controller is rubbish when it comes to fighting games; I see that plenty of folks have sprung for the full-on arcade stick—monied gamers seem to fancy this Hori stick.

Watching this Justin.tv live stream of the game in action, I can say this: yes, the game looks great, and looks like it plays great, but my God in Heaven the announcer is terrible. He sounds like the fake-bad voice on G4′s X-Play. You have to watch the stream to appreciate (?) the terribleness, I suppose.

Also, funny: in this live stream, the main guy is playing as Ken, and he beats his online opponent. Two seconds later he gets an XBL message: “Ken is for scrubs,” then the guy blocks messages from the sore loser.

Good God, the $80 special edition of Street Fighter IV is absolutely tremendous. You get the game itself, a “limited edition,” that is, not sold anywhere else, figurine (Ryu in the PS3 version, C. Viper in the Xbox 360), a 65-minute anime movie called Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind (Blu-ray for the PS3, and a special 360-only disc that contains the movie in 720p for the Xbox 360), a Prima mini strategy guide, a CD soundtrack and exclusive downloadable content (DLC) that Capcom refuses to reveal right now.

I think you’ll agree that this is one special edition that’s worth the extra $20. I mean, Blu-ray movies alone go for $30 a pop, so even if Capcom only included the game and the movie in the package it’d be a deal. But no, Capcom has gone above and beyond this time around. You’ll also notice that Ryu is on the cover of the box now, and not Chun-Li as was originally planned. If nothing else, Capcom knows how to please its fans.

It’s not even a question: I will be buying this special edition.

Even though you can find imported stand-up arcade units of Street Fighter IV in the big cities, Capcom will not officially releasing it here.

You all know why: arcades in the U.S. have been dead for several years—when was the last time you or someone you know said “let’s go to the arcade”?—so it’s not worth Capcom’s time to release it here. That means it’ll be one of the only Street Fighter games to be released onto consoles without a prior arcade run.

And yes, it’s still scheduled for a February 17, 2009 release for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Meanwhile, we’re all waiting for Capcom to release Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to be released for Xbox Live Arcade and PSN later this month, supposedly. I fully prepared to stop playing Warcraft for a few minutes to run through arcade mode with Ken for approximately the 80 billionth time.

Street Fighter IV will come out in Japan in February. Capcom said as much earlier today at an event over there—“over there” being Japan and “Capcom” being the fine gents who developed the game.

No, we don’t know exactly what date it comes out, nor do we know the North American release date.

An animated (“anime”) movie is slated to appear with the first few copies of the game.

Also, remember that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is scheduled to come out this month on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. That should hold us over till February.

Though still several months away, box art for the PS3 version of Street Fighter IV has been released. The US version feature Chun-Li, while the UK version has Ryu.

The game is scheduled for release early next year for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

As a lifelong Ken player, I am Al-Sharpton-Outraged that dumb Ryu got a cover and not my guy. Who do I complain to?

Head on over to Super Arcade in Walnut, Calif. if you want to be one of the first in the U.S. to play Street Fighter IV. The SoCal arcade was one of the first to have Tekken 6 in the U.S., too.

From this shot above and the one in the link, it looks like the art team hasn’t lost their sense of humor with the expressions. I wonder if characters will still barf, though.

Street Fighter IV news, friends. It seems the console edition—yes, there will be PS3, 360 and PC versions—of the game will have full-length anime cutscenes for each character’s ending. They’ll be animated by “famous” anime studio, and won’t be some man-on-the-street hatchet job.

And if you had any doubts about the console versions’ authenticity, Capcom has said the game will be “arcade perfect,” a phrase I haven’t seen trumpeted since the days of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Pretty sure home consoles are now just as powerful, if not more so, than arcade units.

Allow me to say, “eew, anime.” Not a fan. Sorry.

You missed it, didn’t you? I did, too. For some reason I was expecting a bit more and I’m not sure why I thought that. Don’t get me wrong, it looks great and I’m stoked to play it when released, but I had higher expectations. Nevertheless, enjoy the trailer and let us know what you think.

I suggest you set your DVR for CBS’s EliteXC Saturday Night Fights on May 31 starting at 9PM EST because that’s when Capcom will debut the first commercial for Street Fighter IV. You will also be able to preorder the game for Xbox 360 and PS3 immediately after the fight from Gamestop. If you don’t have a DVR or just won’t be around to watch it then fret not because you’ll be able to view the trailer at StreetFighter.com.

I’ll be honest; the last time I played Street Fighter was on the SNES, so I’m admittedly out of touch with what’s what as far as world warriors go.

That being said, a new Street Fighter IV character’s been spotted in Famitsu magazine. His name is El Fuerte, which is Spanish for “The Fuerte,” if memory serves.

Yes, it’s true. There’s going to be a new Street Fighter arcade game. If you’re still into arcade games and still know where to find an arcade, you might very well love this game. I recently went to a Dave and Buster’s in Providence, Rhode Island and man oh man, do those little cards they give you with points on them make it a lot easier to spend money. I miss the old, dirty, germ-covered tokens.
