There’s two big stories coming out of November’s NPD numbers. The first is that Microsoft somehow managed to sell more Xbox 360s than Nintendo sold Wiis, with Microsoft selling 1.37 million to Nintendo’s 1.27 million. That’s probably the result of the Kinect. The second is that, yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops sold a whopping 8.4 million units. Good on Activision, swimming in piles of coin. → Read More
I get a good feeling from this particular peripheral. I’m already partial to the Playstation Move, which I think will make for some utterly fantastic light-gun games, but this Sharp Shooter attachment is going to make things all the better. I think I prefer the sub-machinegun look better than the one we first saw at E3. → Read More
I should hope this video puts a smile on John Carmack’s face. It shows Wolfenstein 3D re-created in the LittleBigPlanet 2 engine. → Read More
December 21st is looking to be a big day for the PS3. Well, also a short day if you’re talking about duration. Unless you’re in Australia. But I digress (from my digression). Not only is Echochrome II coming out then, but a bundle of retro gaming love from SNK will be hitting the ground in the form of a gaggle of NEO-GEO games for PSN. Oh hell yes. → Read More
Just a quick PSA, since this was one of the Playstation Move games that impressed me at E3. Like the original Echochrome, which bent your mind as you changed the perspective, this one makes you really think differently about how the game world works. You use the Move controller as a “flashlight,” casting a shadow for your guy to walk on and interact with. It’s quite cool, and will be available on the 21st. Price not yet announced, probably ten bucks or so. A good stocking stuffer for the PS3 gamer in the family. → Read More
PlayStation 3 controllers are pretty nice. However, these are just a little bit nicer. For $34.99 Nyko is offering the Raven PS3 controller in standard and alternate configurations with soft-feel grip and a 25-hour battery. The controllers allow you to swap buttons and the “alternate” configuration offers a swap of the left analog stick and the D-pad. → Read More
You should be able to find Gran Turismo 5 in your local store today. That makes today a good day. (It also doesn’t hurt that there’s Champions League today, too.) (Allow me to say the word “today” for the 500th time in four sentences.) Some reviews have popped up online, and I’m going to take 45 seconds to distill some of them for you. Not that it really matters: if you have a PS3 you’ll be getting this game. (Spoiler: it’s generally OK.) → Read More
We heard last week that Vudu was coming to the PS3. They said it would launch on the 23rd, and if you’ll direct your eyes to the date portion of your screen, you’ll find that the 23rd is today. Conclusion: Vudu goes live today. → Read More
Well this is potentially huge. A Nielsen survey says that more kids this holiday season are interested in iOS devices than traditional consoles. You know what this means: time to throw your PS3s and Xbox 360s into the village pyre. → Read More
“Unboxing” videos are often useless tripe. Oh, look, someone’s opening a box! Up next, watching paint dry! But I will make an exception for the Signature Edition of Gran Turismo 5, which is exclusively available in Europe. Once again, Europe shows America how to enjoy the finer things in life. → Read More
And no, that person is not me, so you can put away your pitchforks. → Read More
It really is that simple (if you’re in the US). Download the app next week (it’s free) and start watching movies (they aren’t free). → Read More

Will Gran Turismo 5 ever come out? Sony said a few days ago that the game’s producers, led by Kazunori Yamauchi, wanted a little bit more time to further polish the game, but it assured us the game would be available in time for the holidays. Now there’s word that that might not even happen. Online retailers have started sending notices to people who’ve pre-ordered the game saying it may not arrive in time for Christmas. → Read More
Probably should have mentioned this yesterday, but Sony will release a standalone 320GB PS3. The new SKU is shipping now, so it’ll be in you local shop in the coming days. → Read More
A few weeks ago we saw more than a few Medal of Honor-theme accessories. Now that we’re rapidly approaching the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops we can expect to see Black Ops accessories, too. First up: KontrolFreek’s Limited Edition FPS Freek Prestige. It’s basically a raised texture that you put on your PS3 or 360 control stick to give you a better handle of the situation. That, or you can use a mouse and keyboard like a grown-up. → Read More
Oh, that’s a shame. Sony has announced that Gran Turismo 5, its flagship racer that has been in development for approximately the last 400 years, has been delayed. Yes, Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed. I’m literally shaking my head in amazement right now. → Read More
