As anticipated, Sony’s motion control system, PlayStation Move, will be available exclusively for the PS3 at retail stores across North America on Sunday, September 19, later than expected but still way before Microsoft’ Kinect hits the market (coincidentally, I just played with Kinect for the first time this morning, courtesy of Microsoft, and absolutely loved it).
Anyway, PlayStation Move relies on the PlayStation Eye cam, along with internal motion sensors in the PlayStation Move motion controller and the PS3 system itself, to detect the movement, angle, and position in 3D space of the user, thereby allowing users to play “as if they are within the game”. → Read More
Sony, which just recently scrapped Linux as an alternate OS for the PS3 with firmware update v3.21, released v3.30 today. The mandatory update neither brings Linux back nor features anything substantial per se (it gives you new sorting options for trophies). But with it, Sony readies the console for future 3D games and other 3D content. → Read More

Quick Version: So you’re a gamer that splits his or her time between the PC and PlayStation 3, but you really want to make the switch to console full time. And at the same time, you can’t give up the mouse and keyboard combo you’ve grown accustomed to, right? An unsubstantiated rumor coming out of Australia says Sony is readying for a global announcement tomorrow regarding the PS3. What’s on tap for the announcement is still up in the air, if this is even true, but all fingers point to a price drop for the console. Or a new browser and online content, according to analysts that SmartHouse made up or bothered not to source. → Read More
My only recollection of Titan’s Fat Princess was the initial controversy over the games title and how it degrades those who are overweight and women and all that hoopla. All that aside, the game is incredibly fun to play and rather brutal considering it looks like a kid’s game. It reminds me of Team Fortress 2 and neither myself, Greg or Devin have successfully saved our Princesses. Fat Princess will be available for download from the PlayStation Store this coming Spring. Hit the jump for a few minutes of gameplay. → Read More
The PlayStation folks have just posted a quick note about the upcoming update to the PS3, v2.6. This particular update will enhance the media features of the game console. One of the new ‘key features’ is the Photo Gallery app that just sorts your images in various ways based on camera used, event date, time, etc.
Lame, I know, but there’s more. → Read More
http://www.viddler.com/simple_on_site/17671819 It’s been nearly two years, but the time is coming, friends. The folks at the Playstation blog announced that starting tomorrow Sony would be rolling out Home to everyone in an open Beta. Director of Playstation Home Jack Buser encourages those who haven’t been privy to Home to snuggle up to the veterans to get tips on how to navigate through Home. Or you could just watch the tutorials they have, which I’m bound to do even though I oppose these avatar creatures everyone is hyped on. That’s right, I finally got a PS3 and it’s surprisingly comfortable. Kind of like coming home as they say. I was one of those crazy kids who got a PS2 on launch day many years ago. So, yeah, don’t be accusing me of being an Xbox fanboy any longer. It’s kind of funny because I wired in my PS3 to update the firmware not remembering that it had built-in Wi-Fi. Then I went to the Playstation home page to check out accessories and find a Wi-Fi dongle and immediately cursed Sony for not having one. It dawned on me mid-curse that the PS3 had built-in Wi-Fi. Awesome. So, PS3 fanboys sound off in comments and let me know of any cool things I should be aware of. Tips and tricks, basically. Thanks in advance. Anyway, there are going to be wild parties, tournaments and assorted events constantly going on in Home, so check out the Forums to keep abreast of what’s happening in your virtual world. → Read More
