I don’t care that I already have an all black K2000, I want the limited edition all white DSLR. As a reminder, the white K2000 comes with a DA-L 18-55mm lens and DA-L 50-200mm lens. All that can be yours for $680. Want. Bad. → Read More
For a short period of time this month Pentax is offering an in-store rebate of $100 towards the purchase of various kits. This promotion actually started on the 1st of the month and runs till the 22nd, so you better act quickly. Based on the press release it only looks like this offer applies to the K2000, which happens to be a fine entry-level and backup SLR. I’ve been using one for the last week and it’s performed quite well. Look for a review in the coming weeks. → Read More
Last month, Pentax announced that a limited run of white K2000s would be coming and they’re now up for pre-order on Pentax’s online store. It won’t actually ship until mid-February, but I’m told it’s going to be a small batch so I’d jump on this if I were you. Assuming you’re in the market for a new DSLR.
For $679.95 you’ll get the following: → Read More
The same aesthetic that works for Canon’s L-series and Rocky Road ice cream seems to be doing all right for Pentax as well. The K2000 is a solid camera, and this unique look could take a few people off the fence. The real question (if you care so much about how your camera looks, you poseur) is how non-black-and-white lenses will look on it. Pentaxes are great because there’s a huge variety of lenses, but if they all look dorky on your white body (I’m talking about your camera’s body), what’s the use? → Read More
A Greek camera site has set the world afire with rumors of Pentax’s new K20Ds being equipped with GPS units. Observe: Πλέον στην έκδοση κιτ K20D + GPS Tracker είναι η τέλεια DSLR της αγοράς για όσους ταξιδεύουν! Nothing could be clearer! As the K20D is already weather-resistant, a GPS unit would make it that much more attractive to, for example, nature photographers.A more… legible press release is supposed to be showing up some time soon, but Pentax had as of this writing was a new pair of binoculars and a rifle scope being announced. I’ll keep you updated. → Read More
PMA is a good five months away but that doesn’t mean the rumor mill won’t start churning its filth this early. According to Chinese forum DCHome.net, the specs for the Pentax K20D successor have been leaked. They seem pretty generic and nothing we wouldn’t expect. → Read More
Pentax’s flagship DSLR the K20D just got a price drop and is now available for $999.95. The K20D is now equipped with a newly designed CMOS sensor with 14.6 effective megapixels. Other notable upgrades include a 2.7-inch LCD with adjustable brightness and Live View. The LCD is wide-view, which means you can view images approximately 160 degrees both vertically and horizontally to take full advantage of Live View. The dust reduction system now features a Dust Alert function that knows exactly where a particle of dust is so you know what to clean. The body is now fully weather-resistant and dust-proof. The enlarged CMOS sensor is now super sensitive and can reach up to 6400 in expanded ISO mode. The K20D is now equipped with the Pentax-original PRIME (Pentax Real IMage Engine), which ensures you get true-to-life images. The PRIME’s memory is taken care of via DDR2 so everything is pretty quick. Check out the DPReview here if you’re in the market. The W60 also saw a price drop and is now available for $300. I’m in the midst of reviewing this particular model and can tell you that it’s worth every penny. Look for the review soon. → Read More
I’m a Pentax fan and this new lens has me reaching for my wallet. I generally use my 50mm and 28mm lenses these days and leave the kit lens, 18-55mm, at home. It’s not a bad lens, but my 50mm is sharper and faster. The 28mm is great as well, but it’s MF and I haven’t really had the time to learn how to meter down with it. Anyway, the 17-70mm f/4 lens equates to a 26mm wide angle to 107mm telephoto after conversion to 35mm format. It will ship in July for $600. → Read More
Now here is a point-and-shoot I might actually want to have around. My Rebel XT has served me fine for a couple years now, but I’d be wary of taking it whitewater rafting. This Pentax, however, will go 13 feet under the waves for a couple hours and be none the wetter inside. It’s sealed against dust and dirt as well as water, and will operate down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a 5x non-protruding zoom, a perfectly decent LCD, takes 720p video clips, and can focus as close as a centimeter, which is fantastic. At $330, it’s a bit expensive, but I think I can honestly say that I’d buy this over any other point-and-shoots I can think of off the top of my head. → Read More
