Windows 7: You love it, you really really love it!

You guys really love Windows 7! One of those fancy research firms conducted a poll and found that 44 percent of people (IT professionals) said they were “very satisfied” with the beta. Finding 44 percent of people to agree on anything is hard enough, but to find these people showering Windows 7 with love must make Microsoft a very proud papa indeed. → Read More

The new Windows ads ignore what they're selling

Earlier this evening we saw a new ad come out of the Microsoft hive mind showing Lauren, a charming everywoman, purchasing an HP laptop for $699 after finding that the lowest-priced Mac matching her meagre requirements would cost her nearly double. The resulting commercial is effective in these lean times but isn’t it a bit disingenuous? I’ve often spoken of the PC industry’s… → Read More

New Microsoft ads remind you that being a Mac is expensive

They’ve got a point on the cost to feature ratio of Macs v. Windows machines in this new Microsoft ad. I have to say, these things are getting a lot better over time. And the price difference is the key weak point in the Apple product lineup. Mac fanatics couldn’t care less. But to a recession-beaten regular computer user, this message is right on the money. “I’m just not cool enough to be a Mac… → Read More

Asus merging EEE PC and netbook divisions: Who's next?

First, the “news”: Digitimes is reporting that Asustek is considering a merger of their PC and notebook – really netbook – divisions. This means the two divisions will work as one cohesive unit which means lots of people will probably get fired. Fair enough.

Now what does this mean in the macro sense? Since the early 2000s, PC and laptop hardware has been converging. Open a barebones PC case and… → Read More

Review: Targus File Share Cable for Mac

Guest review: John Ha I recently bought a Macbook to replace my aging Windows XP laptop. I figured that, like any new computer migration, I would load the applications I needed and then copy the data from my old laptop to the new one. I have a large USB thumb drive and a couple external hard drives, so no sweat – just use them to migrate everything. So when my brother told me he would lend… → Read More

My iPhone is a Mac, my Android is a PC

I’ve been using an Android G1 phone for more than a month now on a daily basis, but I still haven’t given up my iPhone. The more I use them both, the more that I realize my iPhone is a Mac and my Android is a PC. That is not necessarily a bad thing—except for when my Android crashes (which is a lot). Okay, it does not actually crash so much as it freezes up, forcing me to wait until… → Read More
