  • Nokia officially launches N-Gage mobile service

Straight from Espoo, Finland (loosely translated from Spanish to English as It’s Poo, Finland!) comes “the global launch of the Nokia N-Gage mobile games service with more games, additional compatible devices, and an expanded online offering.” Nokia handset and device owners will be able to browse, demo, and purchase games directly and can whoop it up with other N-Gage users… Read More

  • Nokia N810 WiMAX hands-on from 180 feet

Got a chance to play around with the WiMAX-enabled Nokia N810 that’ll be coming out soon. It’s basically the same deal as the currently-available N810 with the added convenience of being able to glom on to WiMAX networks. Nokia had a “Sky Cafe” rigged up to a gigantic crane that hoisted what basically amounted to a metal platform with an island bar and seat-belted… Read More

  • Nokia officially unveils the N810 WiMAX Edition

Hey, guess what? Remember all the rumors that were floating around about the WiMAX edition of the Nokia N810? Well, Nokia officially took the wraps off of it and I thought I’d tell you. The N810 is pretty much unchanged other than the addition of WiMAX. It comes with a Sprint XOHM account creation wizard to make the transition easy and fast. The N810 will seamlessly switch between Wi-Fi… Read More

  • Nokia N810: The first WiMAX tablet coming (??)

A link to Nokia Europe shows a Nokia N810 tablet with WiMAX capabilities. It appears to be a standard issue N810 and we can only assume it will appear at CTIA this year. Read More

  • Nokia Siemens doubles speed of EDGE

This morning Nokia Siemens announced that they’ve doubled the speed of EDGE to 592Kbps via a Dual Carrier EDGE software solution. Existing GSM/EDGE networks will likely benefit from this in Q3 such as T-Mobile unless the government unshackles their 3G network before then. iPhone v1.0 owners will also benefit. Nokia will continue to boost speeds with EGPRS 2, which is said to offer… Read More

  • EMI signs on with Nokia's 'Comes With Music' deal

Music label EMI has expressed some interest in being the second major label to sign on with Nokia’s “Comes With Music” digital music subscription service. This is a positive move forward and helps to legitimize what basically amounts to an $80 premium per device in exchange for one year of unlimited music downloads. The deal’s not all Chapstick and back rubs, though, as… Read More

  • Nokia 3555 lands at T-Mobile

Nothing to get too excited over, but T-Mobile announced that Nokia’s quad-band 3555 is available today for $50. The clamshell is MyFaves compatible and features an FM radio, VGA camera with 4x digital zoom for stills and video, IM, stereo Bluetooth, microSD and music player. Like I said, nothing to get excited about. T-Mo Read More

  • noBounds: Show mobile content at full HD on larger screens

noBounds! – blast Smartphones display bounds! from Bernd Steinke on Vimeo. NoBounds is a new project by Nokia which allows you to stream full HD video at 30 fps from mobiles to televisions. It also enables mouse and keyboard interactions with your tiny, sassy cellphone. Smartphones have a tiny display, since they need to be pocketable. PCs and Notebook do not suffer from this… Read More

  • Un-CrunchDeals: Nokia N810 has mysterious price increase. Wait, what?

[photopress:439.jpg,full,center] Nokia, you teasing little minx! First you drop the price of the lovely N810 Internet Tablet almost $100 to an iPod Touch-competing $389, making many of us check out bank accounts, and then just like that you raise the price to $439? Why do you do this to us? There are rumors of a WiMAX version to be debuted at CTIA in a few weeks, which a lot of people are… Read More

  • Rumor: WiMAX Nokia tablet launching at CTIA

If the rumors are true then Nokia will announce the WiMAX N810 tablet that’s been swirling about for months. They did mention it coming way back in August so this seems to make sense. Doug and I will be on the ground to sort it all out for you in April. Nokia N810 with WiMAX launching April 1st at CTIA? [BGR] Read More

  • Nokia N95 finally released in North America

[photopress:nokia_n95_8gb_us_1.jpg,full,center] You’ve been patient little Nokia fans, haven’t you? You are now being rewarded. The N95, perhaps the most advanced cell phone after the iPhone, (even with my misgivings), is now available in North America direct, for $779 retail. This is the 8GB, US-friendly HSDPA version, and is SIM-free, meaning un-subsidized, and will work with… Read More

  • Silverlight On Nokia Phones, Offline Announcement Perhaps Tomorrow

Nokia has announced its intention to make Microsoft Silverlight available for S40 and S60 phones, along with Nokia Internet tablets. The decision strengthens Silverlights position as a competitor to Flash, but more importantly (as I noted perhaps prematurely last week) readies Microsoft’s Silverlight platform for the one game that’s new enough that it might have a hope in… Read More

  • Maemo brings PAN to Nokia Internet tablets

[photopress:nokia_n800_hands_on_1.jpg,full,center] Current owners of Nokia N-series Internet tablets can use their integrated Bluetooth connections to start dial-up networking with tetherable handsets for Internet access on the go. But DUN is awkward and clunky, the new hotness, especially for smartphone owners who like Windows Mobile, is Bluetooth PAN. PAN offers a simpler way to connect. Read More

  • Some weird Nokia concept confuses me

I’m all for future conjecture, but this kind of stuff just clouds the issue. Will we have e-paper phones? Sure. Will we use nanotech? Sure. But will we have them soon and will we be using them in the same candybar form factor as this strange video suggests? Probably not. Stuff will get weird in a few years, I don’t doubt it, but I don’t think we’ll be waving apples at… Read More

  • Funny five-minute South Park-ish gadget movie

This five-minute animated cartoon is, for all intents and purposes, a South Park episode waiting to happen. Hell, if Trey Parker and Matt Stone were so inclined, they could just order this thing up and plop it down on Comedy Central without changing much at all. Very well done by the good people at the Um-brella.com site. Everyone gets equal ribbing in this one; Nokia, Apple, and Microsoft. Read More

  • Worms World Party coming out on N-Gage (again)

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never played any of the titles from the “Worms” series but I’ve heard good things and my cousin John used to get all riled up about the games when we were younger. Nokia’s just officially announced that Worms World Party will be available on the new N-Gage platform, just like it was on the old N-Gage platform. You’ll… Read More

  • Yahoo! Go 3.0 Beta: You're chorking on it

[photopress:scaled.IMG_1318.JPG,full,pp_image] Got a moment to play with Yahoo! Go 3.0 Beta on Symbian hardware and it looks pretty nice. It has a sort of carousel interface with news, maps, and messaging and, sadly, doesn’t really filter images for taste and aesthetics, as we see here. It works with Blackberries, most Nokias, and the UIQ Sony-Ericssons. They were also showing off… Read More

  • Google and Nokia shack up after a few pints

Looks like Google’s insistent caresses finally broke down Nokia’s defenses. And Google got some. Nokia’s been putting it off for a long time, but I think that Google’s just too much of a stud to refuse at this point. Nokia will be including Google search into a few select phones (the N96, N78, 6210 and 6220) before rolling it out to more. Probably a good idea since… Read More

  • Nokia 6210: Navigator phone

Huh… the 6210 has an accelerometer and a built-in compass along with GPS. Now that’s something interesting. Perhaps this could be their next work-out phone? The 6210 supports Maps 2.0 and has local maps pre-loaded on the 1GB memory card. It also has A-GPS. You can download free maps at maps.nokia.com. It has a 3.2-megapixel camera and MP3 player and will cost about 300 euro ($325). Read More
