Nokia’s First U.S. Windows Phone Is The $50 Lumia 710 On T-Mobile

Nokia-Lumia-710-T-Mobile

Nokia will be officially pulling back the curtains later on tonight, but the cat’s out of the bag: the company’s first U.S. Windows Phone is the Lumia 710, which will debut on T-Mobile with a $50 price tag on January 11.

Sure, it isn’t as svelte or as colorful as its brother the Lumia 800, but the Mango-powered 710 does share the same internals. The Lumia 710 sports a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage — nothing that sounds super-impressive, but we’ve seen before that Mango doesn’t need the latest and greatest hardware in order to run like butter. → Read More

Nokia Exec: iPhone, Android Handsets No Longer Appeal To Youth

facepalm

Looks like Nokia executives are increasingly picking up on a specific kind of skill honed by Microsoft execs over the past few years: saying something stupid about their competitors that is undoubtedly coming back to bite them in the ass at some point. Straight from the foot in mouth department: in an exclusive interview with Pocket-lint, Niels Munksgaard, Director of Portfolio, Product Marketing & Sales at Nokia Entertainment says iPhone and Android devices no longer appeal to younger crowds:

What we see is that youth are pretty much fed up with iPhones. Everyone has the iPhone,” he said. “Also, many are not happy with the complexity of Android and the lack of security. So we do increasing see that the youth that wants to be on the cutting edge and try something new are turning to the Windows Phone platform.”

4.3-Inch Nokia Lumia 900 Gets Leaked By Nokia (Video)

Lumia900

It’s only been a couple weeks since Nokia debuted their first Windows Phones, but today we’re getting something a little less official. The Nokia Lumia 900 has found its way to YouTube thanks to none other than Nokia themselves. Apparently the Finnish phone maker posted a video to court developers, promising them the combination of “Nokia’s stunning hardware” and “a dynamic Microsoft OS.”

The video has since been pulled (as expected), but the folks over at All About Phones were clever enough to download and re-upload the video to YouTube for all to enjoy. → Read More

Nokia CEO Elop Wants To Fight Other Windows Phones With Volume

Image (1) Elop-300x235.png for post 48084

Given all the attention that Nokia’s Windows Phones seem to enjoy, it’s easy to forget that they won’t just be duking it out with Android devices and iPhones. Nokia will also have to compete with fellow Windows Phones, and CEO Stephen Elop already seems to have a strategy worked out

His plan: to gain a foothold in the market and worry about profit margins later. → Read More

Nokia Manager Talks About Upcoming Windows 8 Tab, Slated For June 2012 Release

770keyboard-small-white

Nokia is firmly a member of Team Microsoft. The Finnish telecommunication previously dumped most of its internal software OS development and in favor Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 system. But Nokia is seemingly jumping on another Microsoft platform bandwagon: Windows 8. → Read More

Nokia’s Crazy Bendy Kinetic Concept Blew Your Mind? Watch This!

Nokia HumanForm

Nokia is totally ready for the future. They’ve already debuted a totally insane flexible kinetic interface concept, and now they’ve even drawn up an implementation for it: HumanForm. No, the phone doesn’t look like a you-themed action figure, but rather has a tear drop shape (probably my biggest gripe about the concept).

I’m not going to go into too much detail about what’s included in the video, as you can easily see for yourself. I will, however, say that this takes the cake compared to Nokia’s earlier flexi-screen concept. → Read More

Will An LTE-Friendly Lumia 800 Hit U.S. Shores Next Year?

lumia4g

The Lumia 800 may not have a gargantuan screen or a front-facing camera, but according to The Verge, the U.S.-bound version of Nokia’s flagship Windows Phone may play nice with some of our LTE networks.

It’s a welcome surprise for domestic Nokia fans — when the Lumia series was first announced last month, Nokia slyly omitted any release details for the United States. Nokia U.S. boss Chris Weber also mentioned not long after the big event that the company is preparing to bring a “full portfolio” of Windows Phones to the States starting in early 2012, but wouldn’t shed any light on the Lumia situation. → Read More

It’s a big day over at ST-Ericsson.

The chip maker, which has yet to turn a quarterly profit, just scored a major deal with Nokia to power its Windows Phone handsets. This deal effectively ends the monopoly Qualcomm has had over Windows-powered devices, and should also allow Nokia to sell lower-priced smartphones in new territories, reports Reuters. → Read More

Mobile advertising as you’ve likely heard, is hott right now. (With two “t’s”, yes.) According to comScore, mobile advertising spend is projected to hit $2.5 billion by 2014, with $2.7 billion projected in mobile ad revenues for this year and $6.6 billion by 2016.

Nokia Devises U.S. Strategy, But Can They Pull It Off?

usanokia

Nokia’s new Windows Phones won’t hit our shores for at least a few more months, but Nokia’s top brass is already hard at work devising their strategy for cracking the U.S. market. According to Digits, Weber and Nokia are looking to attract first-time smartphone users who feel overwhelmed by other options on the market, and don’t want to pay a princely sum for a new device. → Read More

Nokia CEO Sees “Broader Opportunity” With Windows 8, Hints At Tablets

nok

In a brief interview with This Is My Next, Nokia CEO (and mole for Microsoft, clearly) Stephen Elop hinted strongly at the potential for a Nokia-built Windows 8 tablet. While his statement was, strictly speaking, more of a dodge, it’s clear that this is something they’re at least thinking about. → Read More

Nokia: Let’s Call It A Comeback

scaled.shutterstock_72947203

It’s been a long time coming but after a decade of slowly losing its way, I think Nokia is headed back from the land of the lost.

This is not to say that I think the two new Lumia phones will pull Nokia out of its doldrums. However, I think the company has finally made some bold, intelligent decisions and, like it or not, Windows Phone will save them over the next few years. → Read More
