I just wanted to remind my fellow Mac users that they really ought to be using Plex to play back all their movies. (And I do mean movies—a quick clip here and there, you’re best served by VLC or mplayer.) A new version, 0.5.15, was released two days ago, and includes all the usual bug fixes that you’d expect. What’s unexpected, though, is the complete revamp of the… → Read More
Sony has announced three new AV receivers to be added to its ES line-up, but it’s not giving up any details. What we do know is the new receivers are going to offer lossless audio decoding for Blu-Ray, a real GUI, and Sirius/XM compatibility. Hit the link for more info on wattage, inputs, and so on. → Read More
This monster of a projector is part of the REALiS Multimedia Projector line and is called the REALiS WUX10. This WUXGA-resolution (1920 x 1200) widescreen projector uses LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology to produce reportedly amazing color and clear image quality. It supports 1080 video content natively. The REALiS WUX10 cranks out 3200 Lumens with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. It can… → Read More
Thanko has produced what could be the ugliest watch I’ve ever seen, but I’ll defer to the experts on that point. All that we here at CG care about is that the watch, the MP4 Watch, comes in both 2GB and 4GB flavors and plays back most popular digital media file formats like MP3, JPG and, presumably, MP4 video. The watch also records audio. It actually does quite a bit and, putting my… → Read More
The fingerprint magnet known as the P205 The past few Toshiba notebooks I’ve reviewed have not been as stellar as others on the market. With the Satellite P205, Toshiba has included features like a built-in webcam, an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, and DVD burner. Has Toshiba fixed its problems that have plagued them with mediocre reviews in the past? Read on to find out. A first look at the P205… → Read More
If this recent patent filing is to be believed, then Apple is working on an actual media center solution, not some half-hearted Front Row attempt. The patent, which was originally filed back in late 2005 but was unearthed today, depicts a central “module-controller” that appears to lie at the heart of the media center. Apparently it’s a piece of software that sits between other… → Read More
The Apple TV’s 40GB hard drive is pretty laughable, but upgrading it on your own may not be for everyone. If you’re too shy to do it yourself, iResQ will gladly do it for you—for a fee, of course. They’ll upgrade your Apple TV’s hard drive to a 160GB one for $259; to 120GB for $229; or to 80GB for $199. (Might as well go with the 160GB hard drive for those prices.)… → Read More
If yesterdays CG exclusive on the Sidekick ID wasn’t enough to wet your appetite then maybe this will. The super sidekick fanboys over at hiptop3 have the scoop on the Sidekick X RAZR from Motorola. The above picture is a slide from a PowerPoint presentation given last week at the T-Mobile national marketing meeting. Details are very skimpy at the moment, but what we do know is that the… → Read More
Several users, including our own John Biggs, are reporting that their Apple TV orders have finally started shipping. The $299 media streaming device, which was first unveiled last summer, should have already been in people’s hands by now (indeed, some of us were getting quite antsy), but last-minute delays kept all of them at Steve Jobs’ house, which is apparently in Shenzen, China. → Read More
