Panasonic announces Micro Four-Thirds pro camcorder

This isn’t really something many gadget lovers will want (at an estimated $6000 it’s well out of our price range), but it does demonstrate Panasonic’s commitment to the M4/3 format, and not just at a consumer level. The AG-AF100 will fit with whatever lenses you see fit to buy for your EVIL Panasonic camera, and shoots pretty much every format you might want to shoot, as long as you don’t want to shoot any larger than 1080p at 30fps.

The device that springs to mind when I see this thing is the RED Scarlet, which may (if it’s ever released) actually provide more versatility and more resolution in a smaller package and at a lower price. → Read More

    It's official: here's the scoop on Panasonic's new G2 and G10 cameras

So we finally have the official press release from Panasonic, we of course got a glimpse of the G2 and G10 the other day, but now we know all the news that’s fit to share. Both look like some decent kit, and a definite step up from most of the P&S cameras out there. → Read More

Amazon is ready to take your Olympus E-PL1 pre-orders

The Olympus E-PL1 budget micro four thirds camera launched last week but Amazon already has it available for pre-order. On one hand this pre-order will ensure you’re one of the first kids at school with the new toy, but that’s not going to be until next month away so you may wanna hold on to your $600 a bit longer. Something a bit more tantalizing might come along. → Read More

The Olympus E-P2 vs the E-PL1

Olympus just took the wraps off its new $600 E-PL1 micro four thirds camera the other day and your main question is still probably what’s the difference between the new model and the previously-announced E-P2. At least that was our primary question. There is a $500 price difference after all. So here you go, the main differences. → Read More

The Olympus PEN E-PL1 finds a damaged Internet tube, leaks everywhere

Hello, beautiful. The Olympus PEN E-PL1 isn’t supposed to be official until tomorrow, but that didn’t stop good ol’d Engadget from posting the full press release along with all of the product shots early. Well done, boys. And PR agencies are afraid we’re going to break their embargoes because of Arrington’s rant. (we don’t, btw) But anyway, back to the not-yet-official camera. → Read More

Amazon finally selling white and red Panny GF1 cameras

Come on, who’s had a tech boner over the red and white Panasonic Lumix GF1? Be honest. Maybe their attraction all this time over the standard black model was that they were always hard to come by here in the States, available only from shady ebay sellers. But no worries, Amazon finally has them available for purchase — through a shady 3rd party reseller. → Read More

So what’s the deal? Is Panasonic working on a new camera? The short version is yes. The long version is a little more complicated. → Read More

Olympus E-P2 gets official – but will it sell?

Yeah, that leak did a number on the official “release moment” of Olympus’ new micro four-thirds camera. All the stats are there, but I forbore from weighing in on the thing. I’m cautious but bullish about the M4/3 phenomenon; they’re legit to be sure, but this first generation isn’t going to break any sales records. They’re too expensive and too limited at the moment — but that’s how DSLRs were back in the day, and now everyone wants one.

I suspect the non-SLR interchangeable-lens camera (AKA the EVIL system) will replace the point and shoot, and the phone or PMP will fill that snapshot role. But until they get that price down it’s not going to happen. → Read More

More Olympus E-P2 news than you probably care about

The second generation in Olympus’s retro micro four thirds line is almost here. Olympus China leaked that a few days ago. But this time around a few more leaks emerge and show that that the E-P2 might have the same body design as the E-P1, which isn’t really a bad thing, I guess. → Read More

Olympus China confirms the E-P2 Micro Four Thirds camera

There was a rumor a few weeks ago that Olympus was going to launch another Micro Four Thirds camera before the end of the year dubbed the E-P2. This guy was suppose to have a rangefinder and hopefully be done up in the same retro fashion as the E-P1. Well, it looks like the camera will indeed be announced soon according to this somewhat official leak. → Read More

New micro four-thirds Panasonic causes drool, consternation

We saw this thing a little while ago and now it is real. The Panasonic DMC-GF1 is a micro four-thirds camera with 12-megapixel sensor, 1080p video recording, and nice image quality.

After seeing the lackluster EP1 I am worried the M4/3 world might be too hard to handle, even for DSLR lovers. However, I’m willing to give this old girl a try. → Read More

Panasonic’s micro four-thirds DMC-GF1 spotted in leaked picture (updated)

Update: It should be mentioned that the facts and figures in this post should be taken more as rumor than confirmed. Sure, the GF1 exists and probably is a lot like what we have here, but some of the specs are definitely not right, though we won’t have the correct information for a little bit longer. Rest assured, we’ll have that info as soon as it is available (maybe just a little before) and a full review as well. Maybe on or around September 1st? You probably remember the G1 and GH1, Panasonic’s well-received contributions to the micro four-thirds photography world. The GH1 was respected for its HD recording capability, although the “micro” aspect of the camera was somewhat lessened by the enormous kit lens. The GF1, leaked in a PDF and captured at Chinese forum Xitek, appears to be the result of an unholy union between the GH1 and the LX3K. The body, in fact, is so similar that we might as well call it the same one. But while the D-Lux had a fixed lens, the GF1 obviously employs an exchangeable system and a M4/3 sensor. I call it hot. → Read More

Rumor: Olympus E-P2 coming by year's end, to have viewfinder

The retrotastic Olympus E-P1 launched last month with much fanfare. (not pictured above) It turned out to be an alright camera as Peter found out. You may want to hold off buying one just yet though. There might be another version coming soon if this rumor is correct. → Read More

Olympus E-P1 Micro Four Thirds retro shooter leaks out early

Olympus to launch a Micro Four Thirds cam soon, no mention of the retro concept

Panasonic has already jumped into the Micro Four Thirds market with the Lumix DMC-GH1. That camera got most in the digicam community excited about the standard that promises interchangeable lens on a smaller camera that’s equipped with an DLSR sensor. Now, a report suggests that Olympus is finally prepping a camera based on that standard. Too bad that we don’t know if the model will be based on the breathtaking retro concept seen previously. → Read More

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 up for pre-order

Oi! Panasonic’s HD video recording Micro 4/3 DSLRish Lumix GH1 is now available for pre-order from J&R. Sure, the 12-megapixel shooter comes with a 14-140mm lens and its diminutive size definitely garners a lot of attention for what it can do, but the going price is a bit steep considering the state of economy. Yes, friends, for $1500 you can get yourself a fancy new Lumix. J&R → Read More

Olympus Micro Four Thirds cameras due this summer?

If there is one thing for sure, it’s that this Olympus camera concept has captured the hearts of geeks every way. Hopefully when Olympus’ Micro Four Thirds finally drop, there will be one model just like this retro mock-up. The only thing is that there are conflicting reports about when the camera is actually due. → Read More
