Out of absolutely nowhere, Apple has decided to randomly unleash the 8-core Mac Pro unto the world. As you’d probably expect though, power doesn’t come cheap. A base Mac Pro with only the CPU upgraded so it’s 8-core will cost you $4000 alone. Should you dare to upgrade the RAM and hard disks, you’re looking at a $7500 machine. Aside from the new CPU upgrade available, everything else is still the same. If anyone gets one of these, drop us a comment. I’m curious as to how fast these things can fly. Apple → Read More
With all these fake rumors going around lately, it’s nice to see a real Apple rumor come out of all this. Last night, Apple accidentally threw up a new ad for the Mac Pro on its UK site. The ad for the Mac Pro had the caption “Now quad-core or 8-core processing power. Configure yours today.” Now someone could have just coded out a little HTML and took a screenshot. But I’m going to go easy on them and hope that an 8-core Mac Pro is really coming soon. I mean 8 cores? I’m sure Photoshop will open in the time it takes you to blink. Oh well, doesn’t even matter. Apple removed the ad quickly and now all we can do is hope. Apple UK → Read More
This is the Radeon X2800XT with CrossFire technology. It’s a mammoth of a video card. And if rumors hold true, it’ll hit the streets this April at NAB in Las Vegas. But you won’t be able to buy this guy off the shelf just then. No, the X2800XT with CrossFire will be incorporated into the updated MacPros we’ve been hearing about. And that’s an exclusive deal, pal. These cards are insane. Clocked at 800MHz with 1GB of on-board video RAM, the cards can take advantage of a spare PCI socket to double-up their power, that’s the CrossFire bit. The rumors say Apple will launch Macs with the cards pre-installed alongside Adobe’s launch of CS3 for OS X, and its own 8-way Mac Pros. That is a lot of muscle, but CS3 is by and far the perfect software suite to take advantage of the power. My desktop is so big I have no choice but to let it rest on the floor. My wife doesn’t complain ’cause she likes that it’s big, and she actually thinks it’s kinda sexy. However, it does make vacuuming around it and keeping it dust free a bit of a chore. But thanks to Sonnet’s new MacCuff Pro I can suspend my Mac Pro under my desk while I work. The $129.95 heavy-gauge steel mount lets you hang your Mac Pro (or PowerMac G5) tower under your desk and, with the included steel cable, secure it so no one can just run off with it. That would be really embarrassing and no doubt very painful and hard to recover from. Sonnet Technologies MacCuff Pro → Read More

, I now bring you news from Loop Rumors regarding Apple’s new Mac Pros. According to the rumor-specific site, Apple has plans on a brand-new Mac Pro series, leaving the G5-era “cheese grater” casings behind for smaller, top-venting units that are exceptionally speedier. Will these be the new 8-core Pros we’ve been hearing about? It’s a good bet, as Intel’s quad-core procs can go dual quite easily, which would make these new Mac Pros into tiny powerhouses. Loop goes on to say that these should drop about the same time as CS3 from Adobe, but it’s more likely that the announcement will come at the National Association of Broadcasters, where Apple has a booth every year, and has made product announcements before. NAB is targeted more towards the users of Apple’s professional gear than most other conventions, so it would make sense that these muscley machines might make a debut amongst those who’d buy them. Also, Apple might use the NAB stage to announce upgrades of its own pro video software, like Final Cut and DVD Studio Pro. It makes sense that Jobs’s “One More Thing” would be the hardware to take advantage of these new apps, wouldn’t it? New Mac Pro Redesigns? [Loop Rumors] → Read More
