Amazon has dropped the price on the 65-inch by 500 bones bringing the total price to $6,455. This is one of the first price drops since the inovative HDTVs were released. I still need the price to drop a tad more before I squeeze one onto my credit card though.

The 737 series come 3D-ready and are available in large, big daddy sizes of 60-, 65-, 73-, and 82-inches. These sets include a whole range of features coded in Mitsubishi talk: JADE Activity Based User Interface, Improved DeepField™ Imager, SharpEdge™, Video Noise Reduction, UltraThin™ Frame and Mitsubishi’s Exclusive 6-Color Processor™. Yeah, these sets have that stuff in them, which basically boils down to “it looks good.”

The 837 series maintains all the stuff from the previous series but adds more picture quality specs, which notably includes an ISFccc Certification.

These sets are available now and start out at $1,499 for the 60-inch 737 and continue up through the 65 and 73 to the $4,199 82-incher. The higher quality 837 series contains a 65-inch with a $2,199 price, a 73-inch for $2,999, and a 82-inch for $4,999.

The new Unisen Mitsubishi lineup adds high quality sound to flat screens. Finally a manufacturer concluded that equiping a high-quality soundbar to a flat screen makes sense. These flat screens come with a 16 speaker soundbar that virtually creates surround sound. An on-screen GUI and microphone assists in the setup, which makes the system sound as advanced as many aftermarket solutions.

The Unisen series, of course, has all the video quality bells and whistles including 120Hz Film Motion Technology, Plush1080p 5G 18-bit digital video processing. This series should start shipping in the States next month and range in price from $1,799 for the 40-inch to $3,299 for the 52-inch.

This just hit our inbox, folks. Looks like Mitsubishi has run into some manufacturing problems with their LaserVue televisions.

MDEA has temporarily suspended production of LASERVUE televisions due to a problem with manufacturing equipment used to produce LASERVUE TVs. Mitsubishi Electric engineers are taking the necessary action to ensure that we resume production as quickly as possible, while maintaining the highest standards for product quality and reliability. MDEA expects that production should resume by early 2009.

Mitsubishi’s LaserVue HDTVs have been in the making for a while but the critically acclaimed high-def set is now available at select specialty retailers. You still might need a second mortgage – good luck getting approved – to foot the $6,999 MSRP, but the TV apparently produces a Pioneer Elite comparable picture at 1/3 the power consumption. Plus, you can tell your trendy poker buddies that you HDTV is powered by frickin laser beams. How sweet is that?

My hopes of owning such a righteous HDTV have been severely dashed. Mitsubishi has priced their 65-inch LaserVue HDTV that will begin shipping to Diamond stores at the end of this month and you may want to sell your car or take out a second mortgage. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the 65-inch set will cost a smidgen under $7,000, which is on par with other 60+-inch HDTVs, but there’s no word on the 73-inch set, yet.

I first saw the Laser TV, LaserVue, at CES and was pretty impressed by it, but as with anything new, I was a bit skeptical. I saw the LaserVue from Mitsubishi the other day and I have to admit that it looks amazing. It was pitted against a plasma (presumably the Pioneer Kuro) and LCD and it was hands down the best of the bunch. The colors are absolutely stunning and so vibrant. A 65- and 73-inch Diamond LaserVue will begin shipping in Q3 with the former being the first to market. Each set is 120Hz and is roughly 10 inches deep. You’ll want to check one out in person just to see the difference.
