The powerhouse M6400 was announced last month and Dell is finally shipping the ‘laptop.’ This mobile workstation will put many desktop rigs to shame with a Core 2 Duo Quad Core Extreme, 16 GB of Ram, and up to 1TB of storage spread over two 500GB disks in a RAID setup. The 17-inch LED back-lit screen even features 100% of the RGB color gamut and potential buyers can configure a 1GB NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M graphics card to power it. All this leg burning laptop power can be yours starting at $2,599 but if all the options are selected, I got it up to $6,704. That’s a lot of cake. Dell via Eng → Read More
Twenty thousand U.S. dollars should buy you one hell of a laptop, right? Not so with the Bentley Ego laptop though, where 20k buys you standard Best Buy special-type specs (64-bit processor & 160GB HDD) within a Bentley handcrafted case. These laptops have been around since ’03, but maybe you got yourself a new Bently and so you might want laptop constructed with the same materials. A lot of the unique Bentley details can be found in the bespoke Ego for Bentley notebook, each of them painstakingly hand-built and designed in collaboration with Bentley’s own styling team in Crewe. The colour options of the lacquered inside matches the car’s most popular exterior paint colours for ultimate suitability. The external panels have been trimmed with the finest selection of Bentley leather and finished with the authentic Bentley cross-over hand-stitching, designed to match exactly an individual’s particular requirements. The Ego’s appearance is just so familiar though. Oh, yeah, the iBook G3 Clamshell (!!!) just with just pricey leather, gold, and diamond digs instead of Tangerine and Key Line color options → Read More
Yay! We have two new, mundane laptops brought to you by the good folks at Toshiba. In fact, they are so boring that a press release was nowhere to be found. → Read More
I’m totally confused by this, but maybe the Stumptown coffee I’m slurping down hasn’t quite kicked in yet. Asus announced a new line of laptops dubbed the F6 and apparently they’re scented. That’s right, folks, these new notebooks not only come adorned with flower prints, but also smell like their visual counterparts. Weird. You can pick from four designs and smells. The F6 comes equipped with a webcam, fingerprint scanner, a 13.3” WXGA Color Shine LCD panel, and SATA hard drives ranging from 120- to 320GB. Specs and details on each notebook after the jump. → Read More

When I think about mobile workstations, I immediately think of my MacBook Pro and after seeing the Lenovo W700 in-person two weeks ago, I can say without a doubt that the MBP is no mobile workstation. For one thing, the W700 weighs a ton. Exact weight on the 17-inch laptop is unknown (read: I forgot), but it’s not that heavy. However, it does come with its own customized laptop bag from Lenovo. But this isn’t just a big honkin’ laptop disguised as a desktop replacement. This can replace your desktop and then some. The W700 will come equipped with Intel’s quad-core processor, dual hard drive bays (supports SSD) that can be RAID configured, Nvidia Quadro FX graphics card, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, built-in digitizing pad and color calibrator. The digitizer is Wacom-like and comes with a stylus that conceals itself on the right side and measures in at 4.7- x 3.2-inches. You have the option of rigging your W700 with a 400-nit WUXGA display and you can link up to external displays via Dual Link DVI, Display Port or VGA. There’s also a 7-in-1 card reader and five USB ports with the option to have a CF card reader and Blu-ray drive. In conclusion, the W700 is a beast and could easily replace your desktop workstation in a heartbeat. The W700 will be available next month and starts out at $2,978. Full release after the jump. → Read More
Today at SIGGRAPH ’08, HP announced a number of workstation laptops. Leading pack is the EliteBook 8730w Mobile Workstation with DreamColor display. Announced today from MSI is the GX series of gaming laptops packed with oodles of goodies that include Blu-ray drives, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 3D graphics cards and Intel Core 2 Duo procs. The ability to overclock the proc is pretty simple with the push of a touch sensor that’s located above the keyboard. Another seemingly cool feature via touch sensor allows you to switch between five different ECO Engine Power Management modes (gaming, movie, presentation, office, or Turbo Battery) to conserve battery life depending on the tasks you choose to do on your MSI. Full specs after the jump. Oh, the GX620 has a 15.4-inch screen while the 720 is a 17-inch screen. → Read More
In the latest string of netbook offerings comes Lenovo with the S10. The LED-backlit 10.2-inch screen netbook is small, but doesn’t skimp on the features. The keyboard might be cramped for some because it’s been reduced in size by 15 percent, but what would a netbook be without a couple caveats. The S10 will come with Windows XP (for reals, Yay!), two USB ports, a 4-in-1 multicard reader, an Express Card slot and built-in Wi-fi. Powered by an Intel Atom processor, the S10 comes in two flavors: one with 512MB of RAM and an 80GB HDD with the other option including 1GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD. The S10 starts out at $399 and will begin shipping in early October. → Read More
Here are some actual product shots of the TSA-friendly MobileEdge cases that we covered about a week ago. I’m still not 100% convinced that TSA bags, in general, can live up to the promise of substantially increasing airport security lines. It’ll only take one screening agent to throw a fit when someone hasn’t removed their laptop, only to find out that it was in a TSA-approved bag all along. Plus, how long does it take you to remove your laptop for the security line? It takes me under ten seconds. I basically unzip my bag, pull out my notebook, and place it in a tray. Still, perhaps all those ten seconds increments will add up over time. These MobileEdge bags will be available later this summer and I’m guessing they’ll be pretty high-quality, yet not too expensive. Full press release after the jump… → Read More
Just got word last night that Mobile Edge, fine purveyor of notebook-friendly bags and backpacks, has created three new cases that meet all TSA requirements for checkpoint-friendliness. The company is currently testing the bags at the Ontario Airport in California and will make final changes before going into full production soon. We’ve got the three designs here. Actual photos of the products should be coming our way tomorrow. Hit the jump to take a peek at the other two bags. → Read More
My excitement for the Voodoo Envy 133 has been supplanted by the outrageous prices they expect one to shell out for the MacBook Air competitor. There are nine different configurations you can choose from that start out at $2,099 and ends with an astronomical $3, 999 price tag. If you really want an SSD the pricing starts at $3,099. Frankly, I’m shocked and appalled by this, but then again, Voodoo has been pricing their PCs at a high premium since the beginning, so the price of this laptop shouldn’t shock me that much. But it does. The lackluster MacBook Air is starting to look a little more appealing. What do you think? → Read More
Apple has dropped the price of its solid state drive MacBook Air by $500. Now, the useless laptop equipped with a solid state drive can be had for the low, low price of $2,598. That’s with a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor. Note that the upgrade price from the 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz has also dropped, from $300 to $200. Not that solid state drives save you any battery power, mind you. via AppleInsider → Read More
Got a chance to play with the 3K RazorBook, a tiny, Linux-powered laptop with teeny touchpad and keyboard. While this is little more than a mini-Internet device, it looks like it might be quite useful and, at $299, cheap experience. What do you guys want me to test during my review? → Read More
