The Amazon suits told us this morning during the press event that the new and improved Kindle is 20% faster than the first generation; that isn’t the case. → Read More
The difference in size is absolutely the most striking aspect of the new Kindle. Text-to-Speech is cool, but this is day and night when it comes to size. A few photos after the jump. → Read More
We knew the next-gen Kindle was coming, and spied the official pics early, but it is now official complete with a 20% faster operation and text to speech. The second version is a tad slimmer and overall more compact than its predecessor with a thickness of only .36-inches. Amazon tell us that the screen is better suited for reading too with a higher-quality OLED screen that now displays 16 shades of gray. → Read More
If you happen to know someone that placed an order for the original Kindle a few days ago and have yet to receive it, good news, you are getting the K2. Amazon says you don’t need to do anything (read: don’t clog up the phone lines) as your order will be upgraded to the new model. Plus, Amazon is offering first dibs on the new model to owners of the first generation. It’s it grand to be an early adopter. → Read More
This morning Amazon officially announced its second-generation ebook, the Kindle 2 (although leaked photographs of the device have been floating around the internet for some time now). All-in-all, the new Kindle is a modest step up from the first generation, introducing nothing too radical to the design or functionality but improving the device in a variety of incremental ways. So just what’s new and different? We’ll take you through the highlights below. If you’ve spotted any other important differences, please let us know in the comments. → Read More
Later today in NYC, Amazon is expected to unveil the K2 (we’ve known this since 1/27, but welcome to the party WSJ) and with it an exclusive Stephen King novel, says the WSJ. There isn’t a whole lot else about this supposed King deal, so we’ll have to wait until the press conference at 10AM today. I hope King shows up so I can kick him in the shins for the countless hours of sleep I lost as a child because of “It.” Be sure to check CG for live coverage of the event.
Amazon’s Kindle screen manufacturer Prime View International, however, did shed some light on the previous Kindle and what to expect from the new hardware.
Confirmed: The Steve King e-novel is named UR and the pre-orders will be downloaded as soon as it becomes available. → Read More
It goes without saying that this could be a complete sham and that a chunk of salt should be consumed with it, but a batch of purported images and price for the Amazon Kindle 2 have leaked onto the Web. While the Mobile Read fellas claim these to be official we’re going to wait until Monday for whatever it is that Amazon plans to announce to the universe. → Read More
Last time Amazon had a press conference they release a little something I like to call the best ebook reader in the whole wide world. Well, we’ve got a seat at another conference on Monday and unless they’re announcing a Bezos-themed amusment park in the Ukraine, I’m pretty sure we’re going to see the Kindle 2. → Read More
Even though it’s pretty much an open secret that Amazon will release the Kindle 2 early next year, plenty of people are still looking to buy the first version of the device this Christmas season. → Read More
Absolutely stunning analysis over at BGR, where Mr. Genius has the first photos of the Amazon Kindle 2. Our ninja sent us a ton of shots, and we have to admit, they look pretty good. Pretty good, indeed. The Kindle 2 retains the same basic form factor as the original Kindle, while adding a little width and length, as the well-lit comparison photo up there shows. Note that the screen size is essentially unchanged. Rounding out: there’s still EVDO downloads; there’s no more SD card slot; and the new joystick mechanism didn’t exactly impress, at least not immediately. → Read More
