Well, not really. The Husqvarna iPhone app can however control and monitor one of the company’s robotic Automowers, which is actually for the best. You don’t want your iPhone mowing your yard, do you? No, never mind that it would make a tiny mower, but iPhone can barely hold a charge for a full day as it is and you expect it to tackle your yard? That’s just silly.

Husqvarna introduced its line of robotic mowers a few years back. The line has gradually evolved, with the 2011 line now feature GPS units that allow for the iPhone fun. The free apps allows owners to remotely start and stop the mowers as well as track their progress around the yard. The same GPS module is used int theft tracking and SMS alerts. The Automowers themselves are little wonders of technology with up to a .75 acre range, adjustable cutting heights and the ability to automatically return to the charging station when the battery juices get low. Prices start out at $2,000 and top out at $2,999 for the solar model.

With the new iPhone app you can mow the lawn without even being at home. Any Automower® robotic lawnmower equipped with a GPS Communication Unit can be remotely started and stopped, as well as being tracked on your iPhone screen. The app also has installation movies, a buying guide and FAQs.

The GPS Communication Unit is available for most of the Automower® range and from 2011 it comes as standard for the 260 ACX model. The GPS Communications Unit also enables GPS theft tracker and SMS alert.

It’s still winter, but once spring comes, it’ll be time to cut the grass again. If you’re too lazy, then let a robot do it — oh yeah the future is here. Husqvarna has been around for a while, but today are better known garden items instead of dirt bikes. Their latest offering is called the Automower 305 and it promises to lift the labor of grass cutting off of your shoulders.

The battery-powered mower weighs only 7kg and can trim some bush for about 40 minutes on a full charge, which takes 150 minutes to achieve. The Automower even comes with a built-in anti-theft system capable of scaring of thieves with an alarm. The mower moves at 35 cm/s or 0.782927702 mph. It’s good for cutting up to 500 square meters of grass, but it’ll cost you: $2000.

This, folks, is the lawn mower of the future according to Husqvarna. The Panthera Leo is made out of recycled materials and is equipped with five electric motors. Yes, electric. This mower doesn’t have a gas engine meaning you could cut your grass at 10:00 pm without bothering the neighbors. We’re starting to like the sound of this.

The mower has three separate cutters and can achieve a cutting width of 33- to 47-inches. Plus, because of the electric motors, the blades do not have to be the heavy steel bars that gas mowers employ, but rather lighter, sharper blades. The batteries can power the mower for up to 2 hours before needing to be recharged and an onboard LCD displays not only the battery life, but also speed, blade height, cutting width, and general info about the grass.

Husqvarna says that it will have something similar on the market within five years. Hopefully it has the same killer paint job and wheels as the concept. *fingers crossed*

Maintaining a good lawn is a full time job. Husqvarna has a robotic partner that might be able to give homeowners some more free time. First off, the Automower 260 ACX will automatically cut grass, but will also text the owner if there are issues. (the Twitter part was just a joke btw) This way, you don’t have to babysit the robot and go about watching the Detroit Tigers crush the Anaheim Angels.

The Automower 260 ACX does a bit more than just cut the grass too. Apparently it also acts as a guard dog against moles, slugs, and other yard destroying pests. The unit is battery powered, but Husqy also launched a similar Automower which is partially solar powered that might not have the text messaging capability. It takes these bots about 45 minutes to mow a moderately complex 1/2 acre. Not too bad, but I like mowing the yard. How about an automatic weed wacking robot. I hate doing that.

A couple weeks back I was privileged enough to chop down some wood in NYC’s Central Park thanks to Husqvarna and their easy to use and almost fool proof chain saws. I may be from Oregon, but I don’t think I’ve touched a chain saw in over 10 years.

I also saw Husqvarna’s recently announced solar hybrid lawnmower. The Automower reminded me of a turtle with solar panels adourning its backside and even made me think that a small child could actually be underneath scooting it along. I think I may have still been inebriated from the night before though. A small wire must be laid underneath the perimeter of your lawn (up to a half acre), so the Automower knows where to go based on its on-board navigation system. It’s a crazy little machine that mows day and night, rain or shine and quietly makes its way back when it needs a boost of energy should the sun be blocked by clouds. I’d take one if I had a lawn.
