This is a picture of the box of T-Mobile’s version of the HTC Magic, called the myTouch 3G. It should be available sometime this summer.

The phone has been floating around Europe for a few months now.

It’ll be available in three different colors at launch: white, black, and merlot—that’s dark red in non-marketing speak.

Once Monday rolls around we’ll be better equipped to properly handicap the phone’s chances of success.

There’s really no need to complicate this. The HTC Magic, now in the hands of a number of lucky ducks, supports Microsoft Exchange right out of the box. Google says Android, which powers the HTC Magic, doesn’t support Microsoft Exchange without third-party applications. Conclusion: HTC included an Exchange application on the phone. Why do we need to be all, “Hey, Google, can you set the record straight here?” Just be grateful that it works and call it a day.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Android a completely open source operating system? If we were so inclined, we could code a Crunch app that combs 4chan for wacky photos of bears fighting alligators, charge $2 for it, and become millionaires.

The point is, yes, HTC included Exchange support onto the phone. What’s so crazy about that?

While it may not be got for free (read: 139€ for the phone on the cheapest plan w/ mandatory 18 month contract) like its UK sibling (expected to launch in early May), the real point is that it is here, now (in Spain at least).

I’d have filled the rest of this post with witty Spanish jokes, but that would require me to know more Spanish than “siesta” and “fiesta.” Salud!

Supposedly, HTC is working with Qualcomm to identify an alternative solution to maintain selling their handsets in Germany. With the HTC Dream – aka G2 – launch right around the corner, the company needs to work fast with in court or in the development lab to ensure the handset launches on time.

So far the only word about the HTC Magic is that it’s a Vodafone exclusive handset, which doesn’t sit well with American mobile users. However, why wouldn’t HTC bring it Stateside?
