Sprint To Finally Retire The Evo 4G?

Screen shot 2011-07-26 at 2.46.17 PM

It’s looking like Sprint has signed off on death warrants for a few of its handsets, including our nation’s first-ever 4G smartphone, the Evo 4G. According to a leaked screenshot of this internal Sprint document (discovered by SprintFeed), at least 10 phones are getting the ax. → Read More

If you own either a Sprint Epic 4G or Evo 4G, and love to game (not necessarily as much as this guy) then you should listen up, as Gameloft are now offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal for Sprint customers.

Knocking Off The HTC Evo 4G

Sure, it looks like a HTC Evo 4G. They got the buttons right, the camera on the back, and a 4.3 inch screen, which translates out to 800×480. And that’s where things start to go wrong. The guts are what really matters, and this is where things get foggy. No idea on the CPU, and that camera on the back isn’t 8 megapixels. There also isn’t a secondary camera on the front, and no HDMI out. Worst of all, the phone doesn’t even use Android! Apparently, licensing Android was too expensive, but they did manage to load Windows Mobile 6.5 on the thing. [via M.I.C. Gadget] → Read More

Video: An EVO 4G Salesman Confronts An iPhone 4 Shopper (NSFW)

The iPhone 4 vs. the EVO 4G. It’s the battle of our time. Or, at least, it was until Verizon unveiled the Droid X, thus continuing the cycle of Android phones one-upping one another from week to week. But regardless, iPhone 4 vs. EVO 4G is an interesting battle — at least among fanboys of the iPhone and Android platforms. And now there’s a great video to personify it.

The video below may look familiar to those who saw the awesome I Will Honor The Embargo video (created by TechCrunch Europe Contributing Editor Steve O’Hear) — both were made using the Xtranormal text-to-movie technology. → Read More

TechCrunch Friday Giveaway: An EVO 4G #Crunch

So, we’re not huge fans of the EVO 4G, but as some of you commenters have made abundantly clear, you seem to love it (or think you will). Well, here’s your chance to find out first hand. We’re going to give one away to a TechCrunch reader.

The phone is sold out across the U.S. But Google has given us one to give away. And this is better than one you’ll get in the store because a) it’s free and b) you can sign-up for Sprint service for the thing without having to sign a long term contract. Yes, that’s the real deal. So really, you’re getting all the benefits of this phone you would get for the full $449.99 retail price. → Read More

Sprint "inadvertently overstated" launch day sales of the HTC EVO 4G

Remember when Sprint said the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on its launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined, last Monday?

    Yeah, that didn’t really happen.

The company now admits it had “inadvertently overstated” the launch day sales of the HTC phone, and that in reality it was in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined. That makes a world of difference. → Read More

Sprint: Yeah OK, We Didn't Sell That Many HTC EVO 4G Phones

Sprint officially kicks off sales of the HTC EVO 4G

“History will be made across the nation as anxious customers get their hands on America’s first 3G/4G wireless phone, HTC EVO 4G, packed with industry-leading features.”

A little over the top right there, but anyway: you can now purchase the HTC EVO 4G at Sprint.com, Sprint retail stores, at RadioShack, Best Buy and Walmart. The device sells for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new line activation or upgrade. → Read More

The HTC EVO 4G gets torn down to its naughty bits

The HTC EVO 4G is a certainly one of the best looking cell phones ever created. It’s sleek, sexy and beautiful. Even the inside looks great as iFixit found when they tore apart the upcoming superphone. Check our full review here. → Read More

An iPhone Lover's Take On The HTC EVO 4G

Back in January, I wrote a post entitled An iPhone Lover’s Take On The Nexus One. At the time, the Nexus One was soon to be released as the latest and greatest Android phone, and a number of iPhone users were wondering whether it was worth it to switch for the benefits of Android (and perhaps more importantly, another network besides AT&T). My take: it was the best Android phone yet, but it wasn’t better than the iPhone. Now I’m going to do the same type of review for the new HTC EVO 4G phone, which Sprint is launching next week.

At Google I/O, the search giant gave the phone away to every attendee complete with one month of service to try it out. Just as with the Nexus One, I’ve decided to use it as my primary phone for the past week or so to get a real sense of the pluses and minuses of the device. Just as with my Nexus One review, this isn’t meant to be an all-encompassing review or roundup (for that, see here or here or here). Instead, this is just my reaction to the device as an iPhone user. → Read More

Qik Indeed. Service Comes Built-In To The Sexy HTC EVO 4G Android Phone

A couple of years ago, it seems all anyone wanted was access to Qik, the mobile live-stream video service. At the time, Nokia’s N95 was one of the hot devices you needed to run it. Since then, while the service has been growing, it has lost some of its luster — perhaps because it couldn’t run on one of the hottest mobile devices out there, the iPhone, until very recently. But now it may be time for Qik to go back on the offensive.

Today, all anyone seems to be talking about is the new HTC EVO 4G, Sprint’s WiMax phone that runs Android. Not only will Qik work on the device, it will come built-in to each one. → Read More
