EA can continue to deny that Rock Band will be coming to the Wii, but we know the truth. We just don’t know when it will be showing up for the little white box. Harmonix said a wii bit ago that the Wiimote holds great promise and that they would love to bring the game to every platform. So what’s the hold up? Even PS2 owners are rocking out and you can’t deny the popularity or hype surrounding the Wii. That’s a heck of a lot of Wiimotes you’re going to need to invest in, though. Rock Band Wii? Because EA was unable to supply replacement guitars in a timely fashion they were generous enough to offer those poor saps a free game. I think it’s safe to assume that we all thought the game(s) being offered would suck much ass, but we were all wrong. The list of games is rather impressive and sort of makes me regret not picking up Rock Band. I’d get Tiger Woods, FIFA or skate, but I would pick up another copy of RB and sell it. That’s just me, though. I’m broke and waste my money on gadgets. Be sure you do this by January 11 else you get nothing. → Read More
Harmonix, who makes the Rock Band guitar controller, created a compatibility patch a couple weeks ago that would allow you to use 3rd party controllers, including Guitar Hero’s guitar, on the PS3 version of their game. Unfortunately, Activision “objected” to the patch and it’s been on ice for two weeks. I’m not sure what they’re getting out of blocking more sales for their game, since if someone wanted to use their guitar, they’d probably have to buy Guitar Hero 3 with it. Seems a kind of shortsighted move, but maybe it’s just all part of their master plan. I kind of doubt it, though. Apple released iTunes 7.5 yesterday and one of the prominent new features is Phase, a game for the 5G, nano and classic. Developed by Harmonix/MTV, the game is essentially Guitar Hero for your iPod. That makes sense seeing as though Harmonix developed GH as well as the upcoming Rock Band. Rather than using a mini guitar (and looking like a fool), however, you control the game with the iPod’d left, center and right buttons. Otherwise, you know the drill: songs play and it’s up to you to tap the button just as the little symbol thing crosses the other symbol thing. I’d say it looks to be worth the $5 Apple is charging for it. MTV/Harmonix Phase [iLounge] → Read More
I don’t play Guitar Hero because I suck at it so I’m not sure why this is even such a big deal, but apparently it is so I’m letting you all know. There was some speculation earlier that axes from GH 1 and 2 would be compatible on Rock Band, but I heard that Harmonix isn’t down with that. In fact, they pretty much told he/she/it that it’s not going to happen. Why that would matter to anyone, I’m not sure. I don’t play the game so that’s probably why, right? → Read More
MTV, on a goal to buy out music-oriented games, has recently acquired Hamonix Music Systems. Harmonix Music Systems is known for its hit game Guiar Hero , and if you haven’t played it yet, you should. The buyout was for a massive $175 millions dollars- in cash. MTV wants to expand musical gaming onto its website, virtual worlds, and its coming mobile services. It seems MTV is slowly trying to buy out musical-gaming developers to expand itself into the gaming world. “It is about people coming to MTV who are passionate about music and wanting to interact on deeper and deeper levels,” said Christina Norman, the president of MTV. “It’s not just about wearing the T-shirt.” Turns out MTV is about music, not commercialism! Harmonix has also developed a line of karaoke game programs that MTV hopes to promote, and make available on its web sites and the digital virtual world (VMT), it will be introducing next year. Let us hope that MTV doesn’t start plugging its own paid content into our games – the last thing we need is to rock out on Guitar Hero to the latest Britney Spears.
