You know, the world just can’t get enough dead bodies as shields. Microsoft knows this. To help satiate your dead bodies as shields desires, they’ve taken a bunch of 120 gig Zunes and done’m up with Gears of War 2 styling, not unlike the Halo 3 Zunes of yesteryear. They’ve laser blasted the game’s iconic “Crimson Omen” into the back of each Zune, stuffed it full with 244 pieces of GOW2 media (the soundtrack, concept art, behind-the-scenes footage, and a bunch of other stuff that’ll hit BitTorrent about 18 seconds after these start shipping), and wrapped it up in surprisingly sightly box. Apparently Marcus Fenix deserves the whole face of the box to himself, while Cole Train gets shoved off to the side panel. Doesn’t Microsoft know that they can’t stop the Train? Amazon.com and Walmart.com will begin taking pre-orders at 3 AM PT on 10/1, which is just about 4 hours from now. The actual Zunes will be on the delivery trucks come November 7th – the same day as the game’s release for $280. Update: Press release after the jump. → Read More

However, IGN has said that MS will officially announce the full list of achievements tomorrow at 10AM PDT and that the list given to Destructoid is only 60 percent complete/factual, which has been confirmed to us by Microsoft. [Update]: Now MS has asked us to remove the list. We’ll get it sorted tomorrow at 1PM EDT. → Read More

According to a new splash page on the GoW site, GoW 2 will launch on November 9. How? Check out the dog tags. They read 033 116 117 126 071, which in ASCII translates to ESC N O V 9. I’m sure Devin and I will find out for sure on Monday. → Read More
http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=35834 If you’re unable to watch this at work then I’ll give the quick rundown based on what Cliffy B says in the clip. The story in GoW 2 is much darker than the previous game and an improved cover system with 400 “tweaks” that make it the “best in the business.” Also, if locusts or yourself are being fired on you won’t be able to move around as easily and will actually slow down. You know what? You have to watch the video when you get a chance. Trust me. → Read More

I’m super jealous. The lucky few got to play the following multiplayer maps along with others they aren’t allowed to speak about until after E3: Gridlock 2.0, Security and River. I’ve pasted in a few tidbits from Tom’s review over at Team Xbox. → Read More

The Bold is one of them even though it’s being delayed, again. Epic’s sequel to GoW happens to be another upcoming pleasure. As is the case with any leaked footage, I decided to rip the videos off youtube before they’re pulled, so you folks can have a little joy this overcast morning. ENJOY NOW! Say what you will about Gears of War, it was by any standard a great-looking game, especially on the PC. And this next one, while it will almost certainly share the problems its predecessor had, will look even better. As the consoles mature I’m sure we’re going to be stunned by just what is possible; much as God of War, Okami and Final Fantasy XII blew us away on the PS2 late in its lifecycle, we have even more gorgeous games to look forward to as the 360 and PS3 enter their later phases. → Read More
Many of you are waiting — patiently, I might add — to find out when exactly Gears of War 2 will be released. It’s likely going to be an Xmas release, but the exact date has been unknown. The guy who does the voice of Cole Train in the game, though, has let slip that November 16 would be a day we’d have a ship date, or could even be the ship date. That’s a week and a half before Thanksgiving, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense. We’re guessing that’s when they’ll confirm a Black Friday release, just to make things more ridiculous on that awesome, hallowed day. → Read More
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I never used the squad controls in the first GoW. Does anyone else care or not care that this feature is being axed for GoW2? → Read More

Before you watch your favorite Saturday morning cartoons, be sure to catch the Gears of War 2 game play trailer. It will be available on the Xbox Live Video Store at 7am tomorrow. The trailer is said to include a first look at chainsaw duels, bigass fire fights, and visuals that will make your eyes explode… with joy. Additionally if you’re interested, it will feature an interview with the game design director, Cliff Bleszinski. Microsoft maybe planning to release more footage at its media summit, May 13th, so stay tuned for that. → Read More
http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=30798 Word on the street is that Gametrailers will be getting exclusive in-game footage of GoW2 on May 9. Ahhhh snap. The only caveat is that it won’t be hitting the Web until 1 AM. I will more than likely be up so don’t fret. Just check in when you get to work or around 1:01 AM. I’m totally nerding out over this game. → Read More
Unfortunately the two videos that are available on Xbox Live Marketplace don’t show gameplay, but they do showcase what the Unreal engine is capable of doing and what we can expect from GoW2. If you’re at work and can’t get onto Xbox Live then just watch the above video as it’s basically the same thing. → Read More
