Japanese gaming giant GREE just acquired mid-core, mobile game developer Funzio for $210 million in an all-cash deal that should boost its ability to build games for Western audiences. Funzio is behind Crime City, Modern War and Kingdom Age, which are graphical RPGs that have had more than 20 million downloads on Apple’s iOS, Android or Facebook platforms.

Mobile Gaming Startup Funzio Is Raising $50M At A $350M Valuation

In what will be a bellwether for the mobile gaming industry after Zynga’s deal to buy OMGPOP, Funzio is raising $50 million at a $350 million pre-money valuation, according to sources familiar with the talks. The company declined to comment.

Exclusive – Crime (City) Pays: Social Gaming Startup Funzio Raises $20 Million

San Francisco-based social gaming outfit Funzio has raised $20 million in its first round of institutional funding, TechCrunch has learned. The Series A financing round was led by IDG Ventures and China-focused investment firm IDG Capital Partners.

Rick Thompson, co-founder and former chairman of Playdom, also participated in the round and serves as chairman of Funzio’s board. → Read More
