The ExoPC is finally nearing its launch date and LaptopMag just threw a pre-production model down on its test bench. The verdict? Well, I’m not going to steal their pageviews, but the skinny of it is that they seemed to *love* the design philosophy behind the custom disc-based UI Windows layer, but the tablet is far from perfect with lots of hardware issues. But again, their tester wasn’t a release model and some things were missing. Still, you should definitely hit up LaptopMag’s review. The iPad is the king of tablets and might hold that title for years to come. However, there are a ton of alternatives that we’ve featured over the last few months, mostly in these two posts (1 & 2) detailing the top 14. But since I ran those posts, a lot has changed and while some managed to make it to the market, others were delayed or scrapped entirely.
It’s sad, really. While the iPad caters to the masses with the Luddite-approved iOS, others crave much more usability and none of the tablets announced that claim to fulfills these needs have been released yet. Click through to see what I mean. → Read More
We’ve been following the ExoPC‘s development with a bit of curiosity and excitement. It’s one of the only tablets, along with the Notion Ink Adam and WePad, that has a chance to grab a bit of marketshare away from the iPad. The ExoPC just got a bit more interesting, too. Blog Geek just got confirmation that the slate will use the Broadcom BCM70012 or Crystal HD, which should have enough juice to provide silky-smooth 1080p HD video playback.
