Remember two days ago? That was when taskmaster John Biggs told us about the $200 Everex PC. Well today it’s been announced that Everex “will bring Linux laptops under $300 to users next year.” → Read More
When you stroll into Wal-Mart today to pick up some cheap meds and plentiful toilet paper, you may notice a new PC for sale in the electronics section. Everex has released the Impact GC3502, its new $298 “green” PC that uses 20W of power at most thanks to a 1.5GHz VIA C7-D processor. You won’t find any thrills on this system, though it’s not a piece of crap necessarily. A plentiful 1GB of RAM is included, along with with OpenOffice, an 80GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and Windows Vista Home Basic. Don’t expect to be firing up any games on this PC. It’s designed for the budget-minded student or computer user that needs basic features like word processing and Internet browsing. No word if you get a monitor with this “green” PC, though I’d venture a guess that you do not. Everex intros $298 green PC with OpenOffice [Electronista] → Read More
I’ve seen Everex pop up every so often and have rarely been disappointed. They’re an OEM reseller and simply rebadge or repackage nice hardware in their own cases, but this little bugger is on $498 and runs at a cool 1.5-GHz using the VIA VIA C7- M, a low-power chip, along with the VIA UniChrome Pro video engine. While you probably won’t be playing Half-Life 8: Gordon Gets Some on this thing, you can probably get a little bit of work done. Best of all, it runs at 12 Watts at peak power, meaning it sips energy and might just last for that cross-country trip. It also has a 15.4″ display and 802.11b/g built-in and promises not to kill the birdies in the rain forest. Awww! Puppy! Product Page [Everex] → Read More
