Bioshock This isn’t a press conference, but I’m hearing about a whole new slew of games from 2K. I missed the beginning of the Bioshock demo, but it looks like there will be DLC very soon. Challenge rooms are the hot new item where you can solve a series of puzzles to unlock trophies. The demo I saw required the player to help a little sister get off of a ferris wheel using telekinesis and electro shock volts or whatever they’re called. There will be puzzles and a wide variety of gameplay we’re used to in Bioshock. Photos or taping aren’t allowed. Borderlands Upcoming co-op game with up to four players. The Borderlands is the lawless outlands of space. One certain section of the demo I just saw looked like Halo. You just walk around and shoot “Scags” and collect items from these spacey looking treasure chests. Kinda meh so far. This is actually kind of cool. Your player retains all weapons and skills built up even when you jump from one co-op game to another. They’re geeking out over the weapons. Shotgun dismembers enemies and spews body parts everywhere. Kind of cool. 2K Sports coming up NHL 2K9 Wii New fighting engine. “It’s fun!” Demo coming in a couple weeks. “It’s really fun!” Wiimote is your hockey stick. Duh. Wiimote and nunchuck are used when fighting and driving the Zamboni. Use the pointer to select which player you pass to and you can link passes in advance, which is exclusive to the Wii. I like hockey but I’ve never been into hockey video games. What about you guys? Xbox 360 September 2008 launch. NBA 2K9 I reviewed NCAA 2K8 a while back and it’s fun, so I’m looking forward to NBA 2K9. They’re showing a trailer right now. October 2008 launch. I wonder if 2K Sports can compete with EA’s NBA title? Dynamic DNA is a pretty rad feature. It’s 80 percent done. Haven’t had time to recharge from the Nintendo press conference, so I may be signing off a little prematurely. I’ll update this post when I have time to recharge. I guess that’s it. → Read More

Anyway, here’s the down and dirty on the new Dashboard. It covers a quick rundown on the avatars, Live Party and a few other goodies. → Read More
Netflix is coming to the Xbox 360 this fall. Netflix subscribers who are also Xbox Live Gold members will have instant access to over 10,000 movies and TV shows, streamed directly to the Xbox 360 console. What’s more, with the new Live Party feature coming to the Xbox 360, you’ll be able to stream whatever Netflix content you’re watching to the rest of the people in your Live Party group — groups can contain up to eight people and everyone will be watching the movie or TV show at the same time, which oughta further alleviate the need to actually leave your house to interact with people face to face. It’s unknown whether or not the other people in your Live Party have to be Netflix subscribers in order to view the streamed content. I’d think so, but it’d be nice if only one person in the group had to pony up for Netflix. → Read More
Nintendo’s going to be demoing this tomorrow, but it’s worth mentioning today. The MotionPlus accessory attaches to the port on your WiiMote and “allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation.” Sounds good to me; I’m guessing it’s basically another set of accelerometers and such that work in concert with the ones you’ve got and make for more precision in detecting your movements. Considering the Wiimote is already ahead of the competition in this regard, the MotionPlus should widen the gap considerably. I’ll have more for you after their press conference tomorrow morning. → Read More

I just flew into Los Angeles last night, and boy are my thumbs tired. That’s not a joke. They actually are, because I beat Doom while in midair. Well, Knee Deep in the Dead, anyway. In case you didn’t know, Virgin America’s in-flight entertainment system, “Red,” includes the shareware version of the iconic shooter in addition to all the usual fixins. Bafflingly, it also includes several other games with titles unsuitable for play on an airliner: “Primate Plunge,” “The Mad Bomber” and you’re not going to believe this, but there is a game entitled “Tower Toppler” on there as well. I desperately wish I was kidding. Read on for a few impressions of Virgin’s macabre little arcade. → Read More
The grand-daddy of FPSes (if you don’t count The Eidolon) is coming back for another round and may show its face next week. I’m super pumped about this; Return to Castle Wolfenstein was an awesome game, and Enemy Territory is up there with Tribes as one of my favorite multiplayer games of all time. And buddy, I was good at it, too. Anyway, Raven Software, responsible for the excellent Jedi Academy and all those great X-Men and Ultimate Alliance games, is busting out with the new version sometime soon, and hints from both PC Gamer and SpikeTV suggest it’ll be at E3 (and why not?). We’ll be there and I’ll make sure to see what there is to see. → Read More
High res available here. This purported ad sent in by a Radio Shack employee to Joystiq backs up the last week’s ad from K-Mart that Microsoft will give the Xbox 360 a price cut during E3. Hold off a few weeks if you’re in the market, kiddies. → Read More
This was undoubtedly the first and only shooter that I was ever good at. Many hours were lost spent in college refining my fragging and camping abilities. I’ll definitely be picking this up for 360 when it hits shelves this summer. I’m also assuming Midway will have this for me to play at E3 next month. Joygasm. The five exclusive maps, split-screen and two new characters are just the cherry on top. → Read More
