Helio Drift drifts away, makes room for Mysto

The Helio Drift has been wiped from the site, which means there’s room for another device and it means you can swoop up a Drift for cheap. A new Samsung device passed through the FCC that was branded Helio and it appears that Helio Mysto has been trademarked. But…but…I love my Ocean. I may have to put it away if the Mysto is the Samsung pictured above. Drift Retired, New device name… → Read More

Helio Drift Hands-On

The past few years have seen some drastic changes to the cellular landscape. Nextel merged with Sprint, Motorola reemerged as a major competitor, Cingular continues to grow, etc. Perhaps the most peculiar of these developments is the emergence and advancement of the mobile virtual network operators (MVNO). → Read More

BlackBerry Pearl Now Available on Cingular

I reported Tuesday that the BlackBerry Pearl had a prelaunch status on the Cingular site. Well the sexy BlackBerry candybar is now available to the masses. It carries a $199.99 price with a two year contract. You can get it online now. Or if you prefer brick-and-mortar, a limited but expanding number of retail stores will be carrying the Pearl. Good luck finding one though. Also announced is that… → Read More

Helio Drift: Don't Call it a White Slider Phone from Samsung

According to our special friends at Gizmodo, there are only ten white Drifts in all the land — but that doesn’t mean we and everyone else shouldn’t get a few as well. I’ve always been a MVNO-hater, but I really see the value in the Drift. This is a focused, software heavy phone with enough user-friendly features to be dangerous. Ignore all the MySpace claptrap &mdash… → Read More

Helio Makes Moves, Opens Stores, Feeds People To Fish

Helio made a play at MVNO dominance today, opening the first of five retail stores. Its flagship Helio Store is now open on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Cali. As you can see, store was was designed, unsurprisingly, as a place for the young and hip. Computer terminals dot the walls amid comfortable looking furniture, where visitors can sit and check myspace, or stare blankly at the… → Read More

Helio Drift Gets a Close-up

We got our hands on a Helio Drift last night and snapped a few grainy, Zapruder-esque photos for you all. The phone is very small — quite refreshing from a company famous for its brick-like super-phones — and apparently the GPS integration is much better, allowing developers to create truly location-based features. Should be available in the next month or so and expect a few special… → Read More

Helio Adds Drift To Lineup

Helio has dropped another phone for its MySpace-centric subscribers, named the Drift. The Drift is a Samsung slider in white or black and features location-based services (poor man’s GPS) that include turn-by-turn driving directions and a friend-finding feature similar to the Loopt service offered by Boost, all via its EV-DO. And with its stereo Bluetooth, 2-megapixel camera, 320 x 240… → Read More

Helio to Launch Two New Phones, We Add Two Cents

Phonescoop and Engadget Mobile have some exciting news about Helio’s new handset, the Drift, along with an unnamed Pantech phone. Although I can neither confirm or deny this, the Drift, codenamed the Astropop by Samsung, is considerably smaller than the Kickflip and slides up. It’s actually about the size of Samsung’s Yepp line of MP3 players, making it a welcome addition to the… → Read More
