In the market for a good deal on a laptop? Sony’s Vaio is known for being a pretty decent piece of kit, and this particular model is no exception. It’s a refurbished unit, with a 90 warranty from Sony, but it’s still a good deal.

So what do you get? A maroon Sony Vaio, with a Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 6GB of RAM, and all the other goodies you expect on a top end notebook computer. Just to help you spend your paycheck today, we’ve got another CrunchDeal for you. Let’s say you’re running out of space, so you don’t have enough room to download Left 4 Dead 2. No problem, Newegg.com is selling a Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB drive for $70. This is the SATA 3.0Gb/s version, with the 4kb physical sectors. That makes it perfect for Windows 7, but no so great for XP. You can still use it, but it’ll require WD’s Align application. It’s still a great deal at $70, particularly if you have something like a NAS. The Western Digital Caviar Green drives actually run a little cooler then most other models, so you shouldn’t run into thermal issues.

CrunchDeal: Upgrade Windows 7 starter for $50

If you bought a netbook recently, it probably came the decidedly hampered Windows 7 starter. You might have eyed the other version of Windows, but maybe you didn’t want to shell out the $79 for the Home 7 Premium. Good news for you, Microsoft is running a special promotion that will allow you to upgrade for the low low price of $49.99.

The promotion starts on April 4th, and ends on July 3rd, so you’ve got plenty of time between now and then to upgrade. There’s other news too, Microsoft also dropped the price of upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium to Window 7 Professional. Formerly, it cost $89.99, but Microsoft dropped the price to $79.99. Not a huge discount, but at least they are giving you something, eh? Just a suggestion, if you’re curious why you should upgrade, check out the Windows 7 wiki.

Crunchdeal: Save $500 on a Toshiba R600 with OpenSolaris

So here’s a deal, but it’s a bit odd. The Toshiba R600 is advertised as being Toshiba’s ultimate notebook, and for the price it better be. You can buy it from Toshiba’s website for $2,099 for the base model which includes a 160GB hard drive, 3GB of RAM, and a 12.1″ screen, and comes standard with Windows 7. But that’s not the deal.

If you don’t want to use Windows 7, and would prefer OpenSolaris, you can buy the exact same machine for $500 less. Odd, I know. And it definitely makes you wonder exactly how much you’re paying for that copy of Windows 7 Starter.

Still waiting on picking up the Blu-ray player? I held off too until I saw one of these deals, and picked one up a few months ago. If you’ve been holding off until after the holidays, here’s your chance to pick up a decent player for a good price.

TigerDirect.com is selling an HP BD-2000 for $117.99 with free shipping. The BD-2000 is a reasonable performer, with 1080p, and DVD upconversion. It also has BD-Live, which I haven’t found to be a huge deal, but maybe it’s something that really appeals to you. The player also has an ethernet port, one HDMI port, and component outputs. It won’t do Netflix or Hulu.

Fan of the Hitman series? I am. Played the first one all the way through, killing off russian mobsters and blowing things up the whole way. Never made it through the other two though, got distracted by other games along the way.

I’m going to try again though, because Valve is running a special on all three games for just $10. I just bought all three, since I misplaced my original CD years ago. If you’re better at keeping track of your software, you can buy the individual titles for just $4.99 each. Helluva deal any way you look at it.

The second generation Kindle just dropped in price, everyone. It can now be had for a dollar less than $300, which might just sway some folks to jump on the e-book bandwagon. At least Amazon hopes the $60 price drop will move a few more units.

CrunchDeals: Peeks for $25 @ Target

I stumbled upon a little surprise during a quick trip to Target last night: Peeks are clearanced out at Target.

I don’t know if all the color options, or stores, are running the same pricing, but at least the red and blue models are $25 at Flint, MI target. The website still lists the email devices at $50, but who knows, maybe it will drop on there shortly. $25 is closer to the price point that the Peek should be sold at considering th $20 monthly service charge that is required.

Oh, look, a CrunchDeal! Buy.com has the Maxtor OneTouch 4, a TB external hard drive, for $99. That’s around a $130 savings.

No, it’s not the best deal out there—Newegg has several 1TB external hard drives for slightly less, but they’re from manufacturers I’ve never heard of—but $99 for a 1TB hard drive is at least worth a quick mention.

In other news… so, Chris Redfield (Resident Evil 5) punches boulders now, huh? Who didn’t l-o-l when they first saw that?
