Standalone PMA Camera Show Is No More, Now Folded Into CES

PMA – a camera trade show recently renamed CliQ – is being folded in alongside CES this year, a move that almost definitely spells the end of another major standalone tech event. The event was slated to take place September 6-11, 2011 but will now happen around January 10-13 in Las Vegas. There is no confirmation whether CliQ will be a formal part of CES or exist as a standalone but simultaneous event. I’m banking on the latter. → Read More

Motorola is in the black and selling phones

Now here’s a turnaround I never expected. According to a recent results filing, Motorola is working its way back into solvency and is turning a profit and shipping devices like crazy. The company took a slight loss in mobile sales – about $192 million – but that’s far lower than $550 million last year. → Read More

Motorola wants mobile phones and TV to share a stronger bond

You know what I was thinking the other day? “It would be so rad if I could get MOTOBLUR to work on my TV.” And now, Motorola is doing exactly that by working on a platform to get its cell phones to play nice with TV set-top boxes. → Read More

Motorola CLIQ update hits this week with touchscreen and GPS updates

Hurrah for updates! Nothing can give your aging phone a fresh feeling like an update can, and CLIQ users can get excited about that this week. Is this the big update that we mentioned last week? Perhaps not. → Read More

The Cliq XT/Quench drops, brings Android 1.5 in tow

Motorola is keeping the Android party rocking with the Cliq XT — or Quench in Euroland. The handset doesn’t bring anything we haven’t seen before including the aging Android 1.5 release along with Motorola’s social media-centric MOTOBLUR home screen replacement. A respectable 3.1-inch 320 x 480 occupies the front, while a 5.0 MP cam with LED flash is housed on the backside. Wi-Fi, HSDPA, A-GPS rounds out the rest of the notable specs on the otherwise boring phone. → Read More

Android updates fly off the shelves; Motorola CLIQ up next in March?

Android updates appear to be getting thrown left and right recently, so it doesn’t surprise me that the Motorola CLIQ may be due for a tune-up. According to Boy Genius Report, the CLIQ will be getting Android 2.1 OS sometime in March. Perhaps it’s not soon enough for those CLIQ owners who are turning a little green watching as DROID and Nexus One owners enjoy the latest and greatest. But before you know it, March will be here and the additional features that Android 2.1 brings will make your phone feel like new again. Almost. → Read More

Listen to FM radio on your CLIQ

The Motorola CLIQ is a nice phone. That’s point one. Point two is that it can actually play radio. Using a non-standard ROM, a user named Eugene found an FM radio binary and tried to run it on the CLIQ. After a little futzing, he was able to fire up the radio and listen to it right on the CLIQ. Who knew?

Rest assured it’s not available to the public right now. Watch AndroidGuys for further instruction. → Read More

Moto Cliq gets an OTA update, still running Android v1.5

Upset that your Motorola Cliq is still running Android v1.5? Think the battery life stinks? Motorola’s got a patch for one of those problems, but not the other. Early this morning, Moto began pushing an over-the-air update to Cliq owners. Alas, it doesn’t look like they’ve managed to port the BLUR user interface over to Android 2.0 yet – even after updating, the Cliq is still running v1.5. On the upside, they did manage to fix a good number of nasty nitpicks. Touch screen accuracy, battery life, and Bluetooth support have all been boosted, and they’ve added in TTY functionality for the deaf and hard of hearing. Check out the full change list after the jump. → Read More

The Motorola Cliq gets its own promo video

Good morning, Internet friends! If you watch this new promo video for the new Motorola Cliq and its OS, MOTOBLUR, you’ll probably wanna crank your computer’s speakers and wake everyone up in your sleepy office. In fact, you should probably kill the lights, loosen your tie and show everyone what daddy does every Saturday night. Just don’t venture far away from your computer as the video is only 1:10. → Read More

The Motorola Cliq: An Android smartphone powered by the social media star, MOTOBLUR

The Cliq might be the first Motorola device with Android, but with a 350-person team, it better be good. At least it looks solid on the surface with a custom Android GUI called MOTOBLUR, slide-down keyboard, 5MP camera, 24 FPS video cam, WiFi, 3.5mm headset jack and a screen that better be able to handle a massive amount of info. The phone’s interface is built around what Motorola is calling “MOTOBLUR.” Think of this as a social media aggregator kind of like Palm’s Synergy. It syncs Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Picasa and others onto a customizable homescreen that displays info users want from any of the services. Plus, this allows users to interact with their contacts through any of the networks seamlessly. Blur has other tricks too like remote wipe and phone tracking via the Internet along with all the other standard Android goodies like HTML web browser, Gmail, Google Maps, and all the rest. T-Mobile should have the device sometime in the forth quarter and it will be available in white and titanium. We just don’t know the price yet. → Read More
