Cingular added today a new Sony-Ericsson Walkman phone to its website as “currently available”. The W300i is a fairly feature-packed phone at a reasonably good price. It features Bluetooth, a 640 x 480 camera, video playback, access to MSN, Yahoo!, and AIM messengers, external speakers, and, of course, Walkman music playback with Memory Stick Micro expansion. The clamshell also features external controls, a nifty feature we’re seeing a lot of these days. The little guy will only set you back $19 after a $75 mail in rebate if you can live with a 2-year contract. No word yet on whether or not the W300i will work with Sony-Ericsson’s new M-Buzz store or not, but if they start laying out a few more of these mid-range phones at low-end prices, it would seem like a smart move. Palm briefly had some photos of the Treo 750 (WM5) and Treo 680 (Palm OS) on their website, effectively ruining whatever secret-unveiling Cingular wanted to make. Oops. Sorry buddy, but we’re the one making the phones. You’re just the one distributing it. To us, it means that both Treos are heading toward Cingular customers soon, and if it’s available on Cingular, it may eventually hit T-Mobile as well. . The coveted BlackBerry is going to be distributed early next year via Cingular, according to a press luncheon the wireless giant held today. It will retain the same feature set the current T-Mobile version does, but Cingular will be adding Push To Talk (PTT) functionality. Personally, we find PTT rather annoying, but, like Ben Affleck, it has it’s fans and we can’t figure it out. Pricing should be coda with T-Mo, and when asked why it was taking so long, Cingular said it’s because they like testing “rigorously.” They also mentioned a new 3G smartphone without specifics, and that they’re in love with Windows Mobile. Nokia has unloaded a new phone in Europe today that we should see making it’s way to Cingular here in the states. The 6288 is a small slider chock-full of prime 3G features, and comes in black or white (Hello, Apple’s using color now, duh). You start off with UMTS and a QVGA 320 x 240 screen, then add a 2MP camera with flash to the back, give it dedicated zoom and photo controls, add some Bluetooth 2.0 and a MiniSD slot, and you’ve gotsa spicey meatball, or at least a hot cameraphone. But Nokia has decided to go above and beyond, endowing this powerhouse with a second camera, a VGA on the front for video conferencing, and then includes an easy-to-use video editing function for perfect MMS messages. Slick. The 6288 is a European upgrade to the 6282, tentatively offered by Cingular, and should cost around $415 including a 512MB memory card, before subsidies and discounts. Because Cingular has never launched the 6282, look for this guy to hit us in the pocket for somewhere around $299 in Q1 of next year. New Nokia 6200 3G Slider Phone [3G.co.uk] → Read More
Consumerist is running a story about an Alabama woman who is getting shafted by Cingular. The story goes that the woman owned three phones on AT&T, which was, of course, bought out by Cingular. Her phones are frequently used during long commutes. Due to this traversing, the phones are on the towers of other providers for more than 50% of the time. Cingular decided that this was not economically feasible for them and sent the woman a letter requesting that she voluntarily withdraw from her contract. In return she would get to keep her phone numbers, which, as you know, is the law anyway. They didn’t offer to unlock her phones or anything like that. She refused and Cingular cancelled her phones anyway. It seems a little heinous to me. If the woman had found that honoring her contracts was no longer economically feasible to her, I doubt seriously that Cingular would have given a damn. Grumble. <img src="http://tctechcrunch2011.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/winter, but what's with the frequencies? The new device operates at 850/1800/1900 MHz frequencies, whereas the Sidekick 3 operates at 900/1800/1900 MHz. Our own theory is that the upcoming Sidekick could be working with Cingular, which operates at 850, instead of T-Mobile, which does not. Or, it could just be a new version of the Sidekick which also works with the 850 band overseas, though we're not sure how many countries use 850. The FCC confidentiality request expires October 12, so we'll find out more then. New FCC documents posted [Hiptop 3] → Read More
We got a chance to look at the Cingular 3125 yesterday AKA the HTC Star Trek and were pretty impressed. The phone is amazingly thin in real life, a bit thicker than a RAZR – we should create a whole new phone measurement system using the RAZR (1.5 RAZRs thick) – and the Windows OS looked quite snug on the 8125′s bright screen. → Read More

For a brief bit this morning, Cingular had the HTC Star Trek up on their site as the 3125. The phone has a 1.3 megapixel camera, 200MHz TI OMAP processor, and runs Windows Mobile 5.0. It’s a clamshell form factor phone, with RAZR-ish design cues. Unfortunately this means no QWERTY keyboard for you to type on, but that comes with the territory. The price was $149.99 with two-year contract while it was still up. Product Page [Cingular via Engadget Mobile] → Read More

After everyone who really wanted one got theirs on eBay, Cingular’s finally selling the RAZR V3i for $299 minus $50 rebate. Sure, the RAZR V3i supports iTunes and has a 1.2 megapixel camera instead of the dinky VGA one in the old RAZR, but is it worth $249? In case you weren’t familiar with the V3i, it has Bluetooth, MP3 ringtones, iTunes compatibility with a dedicated key, speakerphone, MicroSD card slot, voice recorder, and is quad-band so you can take it to other countries with GSM support. We’re not sure whether it has the 100-song limit, but there’s a hack out there that lets you raise the limit to 1000. Product Page [Cingular via Gearlog] → Read More
The Samsung SGH-ZX20 is Cingular’s second HSDPA phone on their network, the first being the LG CU500. This flip-phone from Samsung allows you to be on a voice call and check your email, browse the web, or download ringtones simultaneously. The phone has a 1.3 megapixel camera, a micro SD slot, quad-band GSM, and of course, the high speed HSDPA network. Cingular’s HSDPA network isn’t available in all areas of the US, so you may want to check your local dealer for coverage before springing for this phone. It’s available for $99 after signing a 2-year contract and getting your $50 mail-in rebate. Samsung and Cingular Wireless Unveil ZX20 HSDPA Wireless Handset for North America [Slashphone] → Read More
Earlier today, you read about some new pics of a purported Treo 750 caught in the wild. We can confirm that this is indeed a version the Treo 750, though it’s unclear if it’s the same 750 as the “Lennon” that is coming to Cingular in October, or if it’s the rumored 750v, which is the Euro-only version. The “Lennon” (likely to be named the 750w) we know will include WiFi, but it’s unknown if this device will include UMTS and class 10 EDGE. Rounding out the 750 offerings is the “Nitro”, a PalmOS based 750 (probably the 750p) with similar stats, better resolution (320×320), and no WiFi. What we have learned is that on a features-front, the value from included software on these smartphones is pretty impressive. The usual suite of Windows Mobile apps will be included, including Office document reading and writing. In addition, look for pTunes, the excellent Mp3/WMA/internet radio app, and MobiTV. For the latter a seperate subscription will be likely, but the carriers may find a way to subsidize this. We’ll likely find out more in two weeks, when Palm has announced that they’ll make an announcement. You read that correctly. It almost makes a wormhole of PR hype. We also know that the camera on the first edition will be the same as the current Treos, at 1.3 Megapixels, and the resolution will likely remain at 240×240. → Read More
