Well if you’re the one person out there who hasn’t yet begun to find the Motorola’s Razr a lackluster device, then you’re in luck. The V3xx has been approved by the FCC for Cingular. It is a quad-band GSM/EDGE phone with 850/1900 WCDMA. The V3xx also includes a 1.3-megapixel camera, MicroSD, stereo Bluetooth and support for streaming audio and video. Nothing to see here really, keep it movin’. Another Day, Another RAZR [CrunchGear] → Read More
<img src="http://tctechcrunch2011.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/HSDPA model headed to Cingular. It just cleared the FCC, so it's now only a matter of time. Moto was nice enough to favor this RAZR with a 1.3-megapixel camera, microSD, stereo Bluetooth, and dual cameras for video calls, so you can pretend you're on G.I. Joe while looking even lamer because you bought a RAZR. Seriously, though, we suppose this thing still has fans, because people keep buying it. At least Motorola keeps upgrading the bajebus out of it, so that's something. Motorola V3XX Coming to Cingular [PhoneScoop] → Read More
I reported Tuesday that the BlackBerry Pearl had a prelaunch status on the Cingular site. Well the sexy BlackBerry candybar is now available to the masses. It carries a $199.99 price with a two year contract. You can get it online now. Or if you prefer brick-and-mortar, a limited but expanding number of retail stores will be carrying the Pearl. Good luck finding one though. Also announced is that the Pearl will support Cingular’s TeleNav GPS. The TeleNav system allows for the routing of 10 trips per month for a fee of $5.99 or $9.99 for unlimited trips. Possibly useful in a pinch, but definitely not as good as something like the Helio Drift. Product Page → Read More
Meet my new favorite phone. The Samsung Blackjack from Cingular is a veritable wunderkind amongst the sea of comparatively ordinary competitors. Not only will it turn heads every time you whip it out, but it’ll outperform any other smart phone in the building, block, neighborhood, etc. → Read More
Previously limited only to T-Mobile, the BlackBerry Pearl will soon rear its head on that other GSM provider, Cingular. The fancy pants Pearl is the first candybar from BlackBerry. It features all the features you’ve come to love from BB, in a sexy phone body. I’ve played around with a couple of them so far and I’m definitely a fan. The camera side of the phone looks particularly attractive. → Read More
With the exception of the Zune, few devices this holiday season have had as many rumors, conjecture, spy shots, leaked stats and hyperbole than the Palm Treo 680. What started out as a hand held known only as “Hollywood,” the 680 is today Cingular’s newest smartphone and Palm’s (and, some say, the industry’s) first attempt at making a full-featured smartphone that appeals to the masses. Over the holiday, CrunchGear got some exclusive hands-on lovin’ from the Treo 680 and was able to see how it stacks up against the venerable 650. Herein, we go for a side-by-side comparison, as the two Treos are similar, but different enough that there should be some considerations. → Read More
If Blake’s mega Treo 680 rundown wasn’t enough good times for you, the Mobility Today people popped up a couple hands-on videos overviewing the new every-person’s Treo. Warning though, this is filled with some pretty steamy Palm-device action. Check out another video after the jump of some footage the site shot at this year’s Digital Life show of all the new colors of the 680 that’ll be available. Hot off the press comes news from Palm and Cingular announcing that the Treo 680 will be available Nov. 24, otherwise ominously known as Black Friday. The Treo 680 uses Palm OS 5.4.9 and sports a bevy of features beyond its predecessors, including many upgrades to the user interface. → Read More
, perhaps). That means that with the new M400, you can (theoretically) get T1-equivelent speeds on a mobile network without having to tether your handset or use an add-on card. Sure, you’ll need a SIM from your provider, but, provided you’re in a 3G metro area, you’re all set. Actual speeds in most areas now top out at between 700-750Kbps, but for most of us, that’s fast enough to watch Michael Richards going crazy on YouTube. Cingular, to its credit, is really pushing its 3G service hard, making it accessible to even modest handsets, like the LG CU400. Feature-wise, it’s pedestrian at best, with Bluetooh, a VGA camera, and dual displays, all things our mom’s phone has. But it does have connectivity to Cingular’s UMTS/HSDPA network, and should support DUN, meaning if your laptop sports Bluetooth, you can use it as a mobile high-speed modem. That’s dope. → Read More
While we personally think tethering to your cellphone is a great way to get high-speed mobile wireless, some of you like to use that card slot on the side of your laptops. Whatever, you suck. But you’re also in luck, if you’re a Cingular customer that happens to live in one of the carrier’s 3G-upgraded cities, as you can now get the Sierra Wireless Aircard 875. With mobile download speeds of (practically speaking) up to 700Kbps down and up to 120Kbps up, you’ve got speed to do more than just email. You can watch YouTube videos, download programs, webcam with the porno sites, or pretty much anything else you’d like to do. This is the first UMTS/HSDPA card in the US of A, and it has a price tag to match: $349 straight-up, or you can rock it down to $149 if you’re Ok with a 2-year GSM-themed boning. Cingular is about ready to pop yet another smartphone (kinda) any day now, as these photos from Boy Genius have surfaced showing a Cingular-branded Blackberry Pearl. Cingular, in its wisdom, has made it ugly as hell and is calling it the 8100. Whatever. The specs are about the same, though Cingular is adding support for its Push-To-Talk service. The PTT should actually be showing up in many of Cingy’s smartphones, so listen for more of it soon. No date for release yet, but you Crackberry-heads have waited this long, a little bit more won’t hurt. The Boy Genius Report [via Engadget Mobile] → Read More
So earlier we told you how Amazon yanked the Palm Treo 680 off their website. Now we know why thanks to a reliable source – Apparently 144,000 Treo 680s were shipped out and had to be sent back because some genius forgot to connect the internal microphones. The manufacturer (who isn’t HTC) had to take back all 144,00 680s and fix them all. No word yet on how long shipments are going to be delayed for, but this is a huge screw up on the manufacturer’s part. It might seem minuscule to some, but imagine if Ford sent out 10,000 Explorers without connecting the brakes. See what we mean? Hopefully the first batch of Treo 680s won’t have too many flaws in their first shipment. → Read More
Both the Samsung Blackjack and the red-hot 8525 just got all officialized over at Cingular.com and are available now. If you’re willing to forgo two years of your oh-so-short life in favor of unlimited wireless access, you can pick them up on the (relative) cheap: $400 for the 8525 and $200 for the Blackjack. When you consider that these QWERTY-enabled badasses sport 3G speeds and Cingular has no problem with you tethering for on-the-go broadband, those prices look rather attractive. We’ve covered the pros and cons of both the Blackjack and the 8525 in some detail here, so if you’re at all interested in either device, you can relax. We’ve done the hard part. Palm Treo 680 available for pre-order on Amazon for $413, with a shipment time of 1-2 weeks. Before we could finish getting this post up, however, the item switched to “not available” on the website, something fairly telling. It’s worthy to note that the version Amazon had ready for you when it was a pre-order item was the unlocked GSM version, not the all-but-official Cingular version, which means $413 is most likely the bulk price per-unit. This gives us some clues as to what Cingy will be able to do with subsidies, and makes the idea of a really cheap (or even free) Treo that much more realistic. Cingular is looking to break new ground by offering its customers the ability to do their banking via a mobile phone. Apparently Cingular is currently beta-testing this new program which would enable customers to check their account balance, transfer funds, and pay bills with their phone. However Cingular has no firm deals made with banks, which means it could be Wachovia, it could be Bank of America, it could be both. Who knows? Cingular hopes to get the ball moving so that the service is available sometime in 2007. Cingular plans mobile banking service for 2007 [Reuters] → Read More
When it comes to smartphones, there are generally two types: cellphones with built-in PDAs, and PDAs with built-in cellphones. The Cingular 3125 is the former. A slim flip along the lines of Motorola’s RAZR family, the 3125 (known also as the HTC Star Trek or STR TRK) fits into your pocket like any other slim phone, and is stylish to boot. It also offers the business-class features of larger smartphones without the bulk. Because of this duality, there are two sides to this slim clamshell, so that’s exactly how we’ve approached our review. → Read More

, we don’t really need one, do we? No. Leaked rebate forms and FCC filings are all we need. Look for this high-end Treo, running Windows Mobile 5: Phone Edition, and its 240×240 touchscreen, 1.3 Megapixel camera, and 3G data to hit sometime before Xmas, or I’ll eat my hat. I reported last week that YouTube founder Chad Hurley stated his ambitions for making YouTube mobile by the end of 2007. Well it now appears that the internet video giant might be inching closer to that goal quicker than it had anticipated. Reuters this morning ran a piece speculating that YouTube might soon be penning a deal with Verizon to deliver its videos to Verizon phones. It does not, however, seem like users will be able to browse YouTube and freely view any video they wish. Rather it looks like YouTube will deliver specific content to Verizon phones through V Cast and on-demand. The article presumes that this would give Verizon some sort of edge on the competition, but I think that claim might be more than a little overzealous. Cingular already has the YouTube Underground, which delivers specific YouTube content to subscribers: So yea, while the Verizon thing isn’t going to be a contest, Cingular is already delivering basic YouTube video to its customers.
