Contour Adds Low-Cost Roam Camera To Its Helmet-Cam Lineup

contour (4)

The Contour family of cameras, which competes with GoPro and other small, hardened imaging devices, has a new member. The Roam rounds out the range at the low end, providing the primary functions of the adventure-proof camera for $200, far less than the latest addition and $100 less than the GPS model. This one’s focused on ease of use and waterproofing. Let’s run down the specs. → Read More

Rugged Pocket Cam Round-Up: Toshiba BW10, Samsung W200, Kodak Easyshare Sport And Playsport

guys3

Summer is here, and there’s a good chance some of you are thinking of picking up something to document your vacations with. iPhones and point-and-shoots are all well and good, but if you want to take it to the pool or the beach, it’s nice to feel sure that an errant splash isn’t going to disable your camera permanently. We’ve got a few water-hardened Flip-esque pocket cams here for you to choose from, but which deserves your hard-earned cash?

I’m not including image samples because to be honest, all these cameras have tiny sensors and small, weak lenses, which combine to produce noisy images with poor sharpness and so on. But they’re cheap and vacation-proof. You can’t have everything. Let’s take a look, shall we? → Read More

Toshiba Brings The B10 And P100 To The US

Looking for a low-cost camcorder? Toshiba called, they want your money. In return, they’ll give you one of these two newish 1080p camcorders. I say “newish” because not only were these released in Europe back in April, but because one of them is nearly identical to one I have sitting next to me. The news is they’re finally coming to the US, so you can buy ‘em all day long with real live American dollars. Here’s the skinny in case you missed them the first time around. → Read More

Olympus LS-20M: A Pocket Cam With A Focus On Audio

We recently reviewed the Zoom Q3HD, a pocket cam (like your Flips and Playsports) with a little extra love given to the audio side of things. Olympus has decided to take that route as well with its new LS-20M… a pocket cam with a little extra love given to the audio side of things. What, I said it was the same route. → Read More

Toshiba Joins The Waterproof Camcorder Party With The Camileo BW10

Earlier today we saw Samsung’s W200 make its debut, and now Toshiba is entering the ring. That makes three newish candybar-style waterproof camcorders out there (don’t forget the Playsport). So what sets the BW10 apart? Not a lot! → Read More

Samsung's W200 Takes On Kodak's Playsport In Waterproof Camcorder Showdown

Samsung has announced the W200, a vacation-proof 1080p camcorder that boasts a bigger LCD and faster lens than its natural enemy, the Kodak Playsport. I’m not sure the W200 is going to win any beauty contests, but at least spec-wise it’s looking good. → Read More

New Contour "Plus" Helmet Cam Spied At Bike Race

You guys may already be familiar with the ContourHD rugged sport-cam we reviewed and its GPS-enabled successor. It looks like the family may be getting a little bigger over the next few months: BikeRumor spotted a new “Plus” variety of the device, which supposedly has a wider lens angle (170º vs 140º), an external mic port, and a few other improvements. Looks sweet; I can’t wait for the official announcement. [via Engadget] → Read More

GoPro's New LCD BacPac Let's You See What You're Shooting

Here at the CrunchGear offices, we have a few GoPro HD Hero cameras that we use for an assortment of footage, including our auto coverage. These are great cameras for getting video in places you wouldn’t want to put an expensive, more fragile, camera. But, the biggest problem with the HD Hero has been its lack of a viewfinder. Sometimes, when the camera is pointed too high, like towards the sky, everything gets overexposed and washed out. Unfortunately, the only way to know exactly what you’re shooting is by lugging around a laptop in hopes of getting a good test shot. Luckily, that problem is a thing of the past. Can we hear an amen for technological advance? → Read More

Sony Announces HandyCam NXCAM, An E-Mount Super-35 Sensor Camcorder

Sony will be showing off a new Handycam tomorrow, the NXCAM. It’s a “for professional” camera that uses E-mount lenses (we’ve seen them in the NEX series and Sony’s last interchangeable lens Handycam, the VG10) and has a Super-35-sized CMOS sensor. Beyond that and some format info, there really wasn’t much announced. → Read More

EXEMODE 3DV-5WF: The World Gets Another Cheap 3D Camcorder

Tokyo-based camera maker Exemode yesterday announced the EXEMODE 3DV-5WF [JP], a mini camcorder that can shoot video in 3D. The specs clearly indicate you can’t really expect much in terms of quality here, but the camera’s biggest selling point is its price: at $300, it’s more expensive than Viewsonic’s 3DV5 but way cheaper than Panasonic’s 3D camcorder. → Read More

Viewsonic Releases Rebranded 3M Camcorder-Projector, 3D Camcorder

Just what do these guys think they’re trying to pull? I recognized that doodad the second I saw the picture of it. After all, I reviewed it three weeks ago. So, it looks like Viewsonic has put out the same thing and called it the DVP5. I’m going to guess it performs at about the same level. So we’ll move on. → Read More

Review: 3M Shoot 'N Share Camcorder-Projector
