“The way our engine and game structure works is that people need to have the exact same content for people to play together. One of the challenges with post-launch content for MP is that it can split the player base, and we want to avoid that whenever possible.” Yes, because increasing the level cap for some players, as well as giving them new characters and new weapons, won’t “split the player… → Read More
Before I begin, that headline is completely ripped off a Eurogamer commenter, so never let it be said that I’m above stealing jokes within the right context. OK, so, it seems that the new “DLC” for BioShock 2 (which came out four days ago) isn’t really DLC at all! Nope, the content is right there, already on the disc that’s sitting inside your Xbox 360 . Time to storm the Bastille again. → Read More
So, BioShock 2. Presumably you’ve heard of it. It comes out today, and I really can’t figure out how I’m supposed to feel. I’ve read plenty of reviews—Rock, Paper, Shotgun’s is my favorite—and they’re sorta all over the place. We weren’t cool enough to get a review copy, but that’s not a big deal; Steam to the rescue. → Read More
Oh, Ziema Lubuska, today is your lucky day! Apparently a games blogger for Gazeta Lubulska (Circulation: Maybe fifty grandmas out in Zielona Gora, Poland) just rocked the world with his review of Bioshock 2 saying that the game is a “Shock” and asking if “this is the direction video games are heading?” While his arguments are slow-witted and dull, it’s definitely giving a small paper in rural… → Read More
It’s time we start implementing DRM on console games. I mean, look at this nonsense. The Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2 leaked yesterday, a full five days before its official release. The same thing happened with Mass Effect 2, which leaked something like six days for the Xbox 360 before its official release. Since publishers are so keen to treat PC gamers like filthy thieves, I say we start… → Read More
Five days. We’re a whopping five days away from the game’s official release date, but BioShock 2, the second truly big game of the year (the other being Mass Effect 2) has now leaked. Well, the Xbox 360 version, that is. It’s found where these type of things can be found, and I only mention it for the sake of mentioning it. Me? I’ll wait for the Steam version, thank you… → Read More
Anyone else running through BioShock again in anticipation of new week’s launch of BioShock 2? I’m currently in Arcadia, which is about where I got to on the Xbox 360 version before tapping out. (I’m playing on the PC now. Yay.) But enough of that, let’s get to the topic at hand: BioShock 2′s fancy launch. Take-Two has a bunch of stuff planned to ensure that, come February 9, you won’t be able to… → Read More
As the world turns, the confusion surrounding BioShock 2′s DRM continues to… confuse. 2K Games said that it’s all but eliminating SecuROM for the game’s DRM regime, but that Games for Windows Live will remain. Installation limits? Gone. Well, kinda. Riot, etc. → Read More
Looks like we have ourselves yet another DRM-related controversy for your amusement. The star this time is BioShock 2, the upcoming FPS developed by various 2K studios. The usual suspects abound: SecurROM, limited installations, and Games for Windows Live. → Read More
I’ve been told that I need to play the original Bioshock. I missed out on it when it first came out, but picked it up on Steam a while back and just never played it. I’ve been told it’s a great game, but I haven’t had the time to check it out yet. Guess I should get to it, since the hands-on videos are already coming out for the sequel. → Read More
Quick, grab something—anything, it doesn’t matter! Now drop everything! 2K Games has just announced the release date of BioShock 2: February 9, 2010. That’s the same day Zeno was crowned as co-emperor of the Byzantine Empire! → Read More
Joytiq is reporting out of GamesCom that 2K will not be releasing BioShock 2 in Q1 of 2010. According to an unnamed 2K rep, a new trailer for the hottest game of 2010 will be shown at PAX East, which runs the last week of March. That makes me sad. Oh well. Update: Bloops. Update: Call it a failure in translation. The representative meant PAX in Seattle and not PAX East in Boston. The company… → Read More
Isn’t that a shame? Take-Two has announced that they’ve shifted the launch date for BioShock 2 to fiscal year 2010. Citing “several factors”, the publisher felt it necessary to push out BS2 so that it can get additional development time. While the original launch date of November 3 falls under Take-Two’s fiscal year of 2010, it’s being pushed back even further to an undetermined date. → Read More
During Take-Two’s quarterly call today, CEO Ben Feder announced that BioShock 2 will ship on November 3 for the US and on October 30 in Europe. Yay! Press Release → Read More

Did any of you say to yourself, “You know, BioShock is great and all, but I could really used a tacked-on multiplayer mode to insure that I still say good things about it several years after its release”? Doesn’t matter, because the first details of BioShock 2′s multiplayer mode have just showed up in our inbox. The good news: Unreal Tournament developer (well, co-developer) Digital Extremes… → Read More
Does this trailer do anything for you? And what’s up with the butterfly? (I haven’t finished the first one, so if it has anything to do with the first one then I wouldn’t know.) → Read More
