SupportSpace, which helps companies provide remote technical support with a range of customer service solutions and a network of ‘experts’, has raised $12 million in funding from Gemini, BRM and Emergence Capital.

The round brings the startup’s total funding raised to nearly $37 million.

Founded in 2006 by Doron Elgressy (president) and Yair Grindlinger (CEO), SupportSpace enables companies like software/hardware vendors and retailers to offer remote tech support services to consumers through a so-called ‘Virtual Expert Network’ which empowers independent experts to provide tech support services to consumers on a range of connected devices, on their own terms.

SupportSpace supports thousands of customers on a daily basis and claims to deliver over 5 million minutes of service per month. The company currently employs 75 people in the United States and Israel and claims to have revenues of “tens of millions of dollars”.

One of the companies they have partnered with is retail giant Best Buy, in an effort to boost the remote tech services business of GeekSquad (a subsidiary of Best Buy), enabling customers to purchase remote tech service products and service plans online or at BestBuy’s 1,100+ stores.

Other customers include Panda Security, Check Point Software and Lavasoft.

The iPhone 4 was announced a few weeks ago during Steve Jobs’ keynote at WWDC. Its notable features are, of course, the extremely high resolution screen, video chat capability with FaceTime, and the new form factor.

Walmart will also be carrying the phone come June 24, but will not be accepting pre-order. And you can pre-order your new iPhone through Apple starting June 15. Best Buy was also chosen to carry Apple’s iPad as well.

The new phone, which comes in black or white, costs $199 for a 16GB version and $299 for 32GB. The June 24th date is for the US, France, Germany, Japan, and the UK. The rest of the world will be able to get the device in July.

What’s the HD DVD Promotions Group’s response to Netflix’s decision to exclusively stock Blu-ray and BestBuy’s decision to “recommend” Blu-ray?

… it’s unfortunate to see Netflix make the decision to only stock Blu-ray titles going forward. While the Best Buy announcement says they will recommend Blu-ray, at least they will continue to carry HD DVD and offer consumers a choice at retail

I guess we’re entering the no spin zone! You really feel for the guys forced to put out positive press release after positive press release. “At least” they’ll still carry our discs

Are dual-format players so expensive that they’ll never catch on? Or is it that by the time they’re as cheap as present day DVD players the “war” will truly be over?
